Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I have not posted to this forum before, but I have been on DS for a while now. I usually hang out at the Chronic Pain or the PTSD boards, but that is not the root behind what is going on today, so I sought out a place that was more understanding of what is going on.
I was diagnosed with bipolar back in the mid or late 90s. Hind sight being 20/20, I had been my whole life. Being put on antidepressants just made it come to the surface as needing to be treated. I was treated on and off for years, a decade maybe. Since I broke my back, my BiPolar has taken a huge back seat as I have worse things to deal with.
today though, it is not going to be ignored.
Some bad changes to my chronic pain management left me depressed and completely shut down for weeks. About a week ago I woke up from that and have been ramping up ever since. So far today I want worked myself to the point that my back simply stopped working, twice. It feels like every nerve in my body is screaming for me to get up and get moving, but my spine is screaming in an agony that narcotics are no longer making a dent in.
I am in full manic phase and hurting myself in my own way. I am pushing myself physically past my abilities - which with a broken back are not much to begin with. Now that I realize what is going on, I will take steps to not let myself do anymore harm. I am not in danger. I just hurt.
In a minute, once I am done with this post, I will go wake up my daughter so there is someone watching me to make sure that I stop.
So, hi and hope all is well with everyone!

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

yeah, I cope pretty well, usually. It has been more than a year since I have worked myself this hard. I usually pay closer attention.
I am not on any treatment other than paying attention to what is going on and making sure those around me know what is going on. For these days, when I am hitting a wall, I just have to find a way to distract myself. Tomorrow I will be able to go out and get a lot of zero impact stimulation that will let me burn through some of this energy without hurting myself.
hugs to all
I am still manic today. My mind is racing with things I want to do today, and how to get them done. It is only physical pain that is slowing me down. If I can get that under control today, I will have to rely on family to slow me down.
I can look on the bright side and say that at least I am not rapid cycling. There was a time when I would cycle through a full cycle in one or two days. I will put in a call to my pdoc today for an apt. It will be a month or so before my apt, but if I am cycling this bad, it is not good...
The ONLY reason I have been able to self care to this extent is my broken back. My old pdoc said it was a case of the 'barn doors being shut'. With so much of my brain dealing with the pain and other issues of my back, there are just no neurons left to accept the input of other things. I would much rather deal with being BiPolar than do another ten years dealing with my back.
Wow, it has been almost ten years since I broke my back. March of 2005 is when I took a head first fall off of a rescue horse that crushed one of my vertebrae.
Well, I can't keep focused right now. My mind is jumping all over the place. My pain is starting to lessen, so I best wake up my daughter. We have all moved to a nocturnal schedule as hubby is working graveyard right now, and on his days off he wants to spend the time with us, not watching TV. So even though it is 11am here, I am only up because the dogs had to go outside.
hugs to all!
