Has anyone ever gotten manic or hypomanic while on lamictal? I've been on it for depression and I'm getting hypomanic on it. Today I stayed in bed all day and had extreme anixety and racing thoughts. I don't want to stop taking it without talking to my pdoc so I guess I will just have to suffer through.

Hey all, i know its been quite awhile since i posted on here. Its been a summer all right. Its been something else........... You know how they say not to open the can of worms? Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...

I am on lithium/lamictal protocol. strangest thing is my lith helps with the depression and the lamictal seems to control the hypomania I used to have on lithium alone. ive always been a bit odd though .
good luck be safe and make the call even if you have to go route of er always take safety over all else
Big hug for you sweetie...x
When will you be able to talk to the pdoc? Sounds like a good idea to do so.
I never thought that the Lamictal would totally prevent it from happening, though.
Just help keep it to a minimum.
I think it's supposed to lengthen the time between episodes.
My Psychiatric Nurse prescribes it as a treatment for Depression.
When I suffer Depression (not very often) or when I relish Hypomania (I get the fun kind!!!), I don't see either as being caused by the Lamictal.
More in spite of it.
If you have only recently started taking it and that's coinciding with the unwanted moods you're experiencing, then that certainly makes the Lamictal a bit suspect.
And while it's true that even if you've been on it a long time it could still be the cause of your symptoms, perhaps it's not.
I hope you contact your Pdoc as soon as you can!!
If the Lamictal is the problem the sooner you're off it, the better!!
It may be, though, that you need a different med to treat the anxiety and racing thoughts, etc.
Anxiety is one of my least favorite symptoms!! Ugh!!
And I take something besides Lamictal for it.
I hope you're feeling better soon!!!
