Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I put this in the Sz category as well. I just don't know where would be better to get feed back, so I am posting it in both places. Thx
I was confronted by something I have done in the past today.
I was just thinking about it and I wanted to talk about it here.
Social relationships have been difficult for me to cultivate.
I have a lot of aquaintences but not a set social group that I hang out with outside of my family. I have a few friends, I have the people I live in this board and care (but I keep quiet a lot) AND I talk to folks here on DS.org.
How do relationships work for you? Is it our natures as people with illness that relationships are hard for us (if it is hard for you.)
I have found when I have tried to forge relationships in the past (purposefully) I have gotten into them -and then gotten out of them. I think it's terrible. Some of the few friends I have I am very loyal to. But some groups of people I have pushed away - when sick and also when frightened or spooked by things they have done. I leave -
it's terrible and I think my ill sense of social contact has me wonder what the heck I am doing.
Just for example, I joined a church - and then said to someone I was getting to know there that I couldn't be in touch anymore because my illness was coming back. It's true she totally triggered me and it freaked me out about the whole church thing. I felt trapped and in danger and I left. It's weird.
Any thoughts?

Outside of family, I have few RL relationships. I try to step out and then pull back or push away. It's so hard. You're not alone in this struggle. ((((Hugs))))
