You know your mom is mean...she's done this before....you know how she is and the crap she says...so why do you still give her power over you? Who cares what she says? She's just getting off by getting a rise out of you....why let her?

Visualizations are my favorite tool for coping with the habitually mean people in my life. My personal favorite is to imagine them as a 2 year old throwing tantrums. Don't want to hurt them, nor do I want to let them hurt me. I just want to constrain them at a safe distance until the tantrum passes.

Another personal fave is to visualize them screaming through the barred windows of a mental institution. They are sick, not evil. Their screams are not about me, not even when they are calling my name.

Continued support while you find what works for you, TC. Hope you can consider the source in the "Loser" tantrum. The "Loser" label works better in games and sports than in real life. Life doesn't summarize so neatly.

When my dad tears into me verbally, I just think to myself "It's not him, I love him. It's what he chooses to say" Also the reason he does this is because he is going through mental issues too. So i.e. it's not the person, but it's their words...thats how I let it flow over me.

Eventually, medicated or not, the actions are the person. They choose not to break the vicious cycles, so doesn't this leave them being deliberate?

I am sorry this sounds really hard to take. I feel pushed around by life when I leave the house. This sounds really hard.

She has always been a problem for you. Why not cut off all contact, she sounds toxic. It's self preservation, no need to feel guilty about doing that.
