Going on a road trip, taking my bike with me. Glad to see you posting, Lovingsoul! Just post when you want!
And Louis, I went through 5 bike seats before I found one that only hurts a little. I also wear padded biking shorts, which helps too. And I adjust my position a lot, which seems to help!
But the worst part was that my adrenal gland seems to have shut down, from taking prednisone for the flares. I went for a rest after, and didn't wake up for 4 hours.
I think I am going to have to see my naturopath again, and get my adrenal function working again.
I had this same problem in 1996 when I fell off my bike and broke my shoulder.
I have a three wheel "trike" now but still, am hesitant to get out there and ride. I cannot use the weather as an excuse anymore.
I miss the riding, it clears my mind and I feel better physically as well. Thank you for the "You can do it!"
It is inspirational that you ride with your feet hurting. Does it make it easier than walking to ride the bike? I have had feet pain and my doctor says I have beginning stages of possible arthritis, I was told that at age 12, I don't know how the doctor knew but he predicted correctly. A doctor I saw in 2010 said my feet looked strange, I have very narrow feet with high arches and they are bigger than the average females, I wear a size 10 mostly, or maybe a 9 1/2 or even a 11 in some shoes.
I hope the naturopath can help you with your adrenal function. That makes me wonder how my adrenal function is? I looked it up.
I was on Steroid and cortaid brand medicines for many years for eye styes and skin inflammations, I used creams plus prescription pills, eye drops, (prednisolone)
The doctor finally said that they would not give me any more because of harmful toxic side affects? I had a cataract at age 39, the doctor said did I use steroids a lot at any time?
I wish you well on that.
Happy healthy riding! Thnx Marlene
I broke my elbow and dislocated my knee in a bad bike crash in 2012. The elbow took all summer to heal, but it wasn't as bad as yours. I kept trying to get on my bike, but after 5 km the pain was so bad I would head home. So I do nicer stand your fear.
I fell on the ice in January while walking and hurt both my knees. I hyper extended the right knee. This week while washing my kitchen floor, I hyperextended it again. I went to PT and she really helped it, but not perfect yet! So I am in Calgary after babysitting my grandchildren, and I went out and did 20.4 km in 65 minutes. My lungs were really bad, so I changed all three. Inhalers to new ones. I did get a personal. Est on one of the hills, I'm not sure how.,I was "spinning." Lower gear, faster spin means less tension on the knee.
The good part was my son's hot tub was all fired up, so I had a nice relaxing soak!
Today, I had a hard ride. I am determined to ride every other day. So although the wind looked terrible, I went out. It was horrible! I almost had my bike picked up and thrown across the road while I was on it!!
But I realize if I don't go out when it is windy, I will never go out. So I made 19 km, some of it easy, as the wind pushed me from behind, and some it agony as I peddled into it.
It took me 61 minutes.
I also saw an orthopedic foot specialist in Calgary, who is going to take the pin out of my reconstruction foot, but advised me against the other foot being done, because RA just destroys the bones, and I would probably have a bad result just like the other. The joints in that foot are also subluxed, which basically means dislocated. Sigh!
I took my bike on the highway and rode 25.4km in 79 minutes. I was exhausted after. Especially since I weeded my front flower beds for 1 1/2 hours after!
But seriously, I am just drained after a ride, and I am going to talk to my doctor about it. This is not because the bike ride is exhausting me, but more because I seem to be burning up all my energy and not replacing it. I think that is ATP in the cells or something!
So I took a hard ride to a street that brought me home. I was soaked to the bone, including my socks and shoes and my knee bracer and gloves. I think I did 8 km in 25 minutes. But the the last 10 minutes was the hardest ride I have ever had. I have never ridden in that much rain. My eyes were stinging from the sun screen pouring into my eyes. Now that is irony!
I am slowly warming up.
