I am new to this support group. I lost both of my parents in 24 hours. They were both living in the same nursing home Dad was 89 and he passed away on 12-26-15, we went to tell mom(85) the next morning and she looked totally different. She told the nurse that dad had visited her about 5:30 am before we got there, he was already gone then. She opened her eyes and said - Who died? Then she shut her eyes. The nurse told us that she was in the process of passing. I lost it, I thought, dad just died, now Mom? She passed away 24 hours and 20 minutes later. They had been married 67 years and I know they are pain-free in heaven together, but it doesn't take away the loss I feel. They had moved near me 3 years earlier so I saw them almost daily or at least talked to them. I am dreading the holidays! If you google ND couple died hours apart, you will read their story that Grand Forks Herald wrote.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Yes, they are together. It is often strange how things like this unfold. But it is up to us, the living, to go on. I've lost both parents as well, they passed a few weeks off from 12 months apart. I guess that when mom died (first) I was able to focus on dad, and that somehow lessened the shock of losing her. (She had been going downhill for several years, so I had been saying good by to mom for a long time.)
We will always miss them, no getting around that.
I'm almost at the 2 1/2 year mark for mom, that plus her slow decline has put me in a good place with her.
For dad it is now just about 1 1/2 year. I still miss him, but I am able to have moments where I can see things that he would have liked and smile about it rather than be sad that he is not there to share in it.
It will take time, but we can all get to a good place.
Gentle hugs
Holidays can be difficult and painful for sure
I think celebrating their lives during these times in some way can help a little
Grief is a process that takes some time...we will always miss them..
In time though when you think of your folks you can also smile ....I can think of good times now however it takes some time to get to that place....big hug...xo
