Hi, I am new to this group. I lost my Dad in December very suddenly, and am having a hard time dealing with it. He was a very advid fisherman, and decided to go ice fishing. A freak accident occured and he fell through the ice and we lost him. He was fishing alone, and when he didn't come home, we went looking for him. My brother was unable to find him that night, but he could tell he had fallen in, so we knew we had lost him. The next afternoon, the diving team found him and removed him from the water. I keep telling myself he was 80 years old, and i should be thankful for the time i had with him, but I just can't. I feel very cheated, and almost let down. He i know, had many more years left in him, and i was not ready to loose him. To enphasize things, my mother has Alziemers, and he was her caregiver. When he died, I moved in with her in their house until my husband and I could get a larger apartment and we moved her in with us. I feel almost like i haven't had a chance to greive for my Dad, as i've been taking care of my Mom and dealing with all the "financial" aspects of his passing. I know that i am not alone in this loss, but i feel i am at times. I feel like noone knows how I am feeling because i don't really get a chance to express it. Everyone just keeps telling me that i'm a saint for taking mom in, but i don't feel that way. It was the only right thing to do in my opinion. Her condition has gotten much worse since dad passed, and i'm just starting to loose control i feel. I am writing here in a hope of getting some kind of relief as i don't really feel i have any place to express myself. I loved him so much, and he was such a big part of my life and i don't know some days how to continue on with my life. I find myseft constantly wondering if i'm doing a good enough job, and if he's happy and proud of me. I just wish i could get over my sense of emptyness and loss. And i'm assamed to admit it, but i find myself sometimes feeling angry. At him for going fishing, and at the universe for taking him from me.... then i feel guilty for being angry at him. How can i be angry and sad so much at the same time....

Hey All...I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful beginning of your weekI have a bunch of chores that need doing but may put them off til tomorrow and just hang out with my landlord/roomie todayWhat about you?...Anything special going on?Have a great day and take good care of you!!..Xo

Anger is one of the stages of grief..... A lot of us go through anger ........You are going through massive changes and I imagine you are also grieving for your mom and the lady that she was pre Alzheimer's
It's A LOT
I lost both of my parents within a fairly short time and my mom had Alzheimer's as well...... and I took care of them the last few years of their lives
It's probably one of the hardest things you'll ever do
I would look into Community Health and see what services might be available to you if you haven't done that already
Your mom's doctor can always refer you to a social worker....
There may also be an Alzheimer's society that can offer some help...... For instance someone to stay with your mom so you can get out for an evening
I would try and get into a real life support group for the loss of your dad in order to help you to work through the process and it truly is a process
We have a Caring for Aging Parents board on here that might be of support for you as well as a Alzheimer's and Caregivers Board
Gentle hug and a blessing......xo

Some of these boards aren't really busy however you can make friends on the boards who understand how difficult caregiving can be
combinations of emotions , and ever changing at that . right now im feeling loss , grief , anger , anxiety , sense of failure , sadness , fear , love , empathy , relief ? ( ya thats a confusing one ) , and then guilt for feeling that way .
this combination is ever changing and the levels of each change with your involuntary mood system . these are likely issues youll have to work thru yourself because (trust me on this ) there aint no 20 something year old ( girl ) therapist gonna have enough wisdom or life experience to helpfully advise you . in fact it doesnt take much of their condescending yap to piss you off .
When friends tell you how wonderful you are for taking your mom in, you may need to stop them and tell them just what you told us here: that it was the only decision you could live with, and that you still need to vent and grieve for your father.
Gentle hugs
