I know my mommy is no longer suffering in this life. But sometimes I feel like i killed her. The doctors explained how her organs had shut down and once the life support was removed the body would completely stop functioning. I couldn't imagine a world where my mom would be a breathing vegetable for years in a nursing facility. Watching my mom's body labor over half a day to transition will forever be my worst experience on this side of the earth

I was hit with some sort of flu (tested negative twice) and was knocked out in bed for four days. I had a decent week afterwards, but then I came down with a cold the following week, which put me in bed for two days. I'm mostly recovered, except I still have some remnants of congestion. However, I have been feeling depressed for the past few days. I've been going to sleep at 9, which is early for...

My shrink, whom I trust and like, wants me back in weekly sessions with a therapist.Start this week with newbie. So much whirling in my head I can't even tell what it is.Just had to post where it might be understood. Gonna go try to watch grass grow to calm down. May cry. May claw myself. I hate when my PTSD anxiety ramps up like this. I dislike new people asking about my life. I always feel...

I've had the privilege to be with in spirit through the universe three amazing women as they each battled their illness.
We don't know, we just don't know and can only do what we think is best with love in our hearts...that is what you did.
At 73 with two major illnesses, having survived cancer, I don't fear death, I've heard one fears the pain of the process.
No matter what, you will heal in your own time, and it does take time to work through the emotions....your worst experience will be your BEST Learning Lesson In Life for those you encounter in your life journey.
What has helped me, is to think of what I did or didn't do for the person while they were alive to make a difference.
No doubt you brought peace of mind to your Beloved Mom through the medical actions taken.
I personally would never keep anyone on life support Mel
Even though they look like they're sleeping their brain is no longer functioning and a machine is breathing for them
There is a really fabulous book called The Shack that helped me a great deal with the grief process
It's written by the son of a missionary
I believe it's his depiction of death, afterlife and grief
It's also a film but the book is better
Although I've read and watched the film a few times
A friend of mine who's a reverand told me it's one of the best books he's ever read
I struggled with survivor's guilt as well Mel
I think a lot of us do
But I believe those who we love are now in Paradise
Another hug sweetie...xo
she is still with you.
You actually did an act of MERCY for her. She was ready to transition to the other side. You helped her cross to the other side, through the veil of life, and enjoy the life that is over there with no body issues or pain.
Both my in-laws got morphine at the end to ease their suffering because they were doing the loud breathing and suffering. Neither was on life support but we had to insist with the other relatives that we do compassionate things not keeping their bodies going. Both on hospice.
The loud breathing or gasping many people do as they transition to the other side is normal. It is a sign that even the brain is shutting down and the body tends to keep the brain alive till the end.
Half a day like this is probably short in all consideration. Both my parents took much longer and it was strange to me (weeks). My dad was yelling at my mom at the end, out of his mind, heart damage too bad to sustain his life. And my mom laid in her hospice bed at her at. her home so silent for a couple of weeks, not eating, not walking, not talking, I guess comatose. She only crossed over when I took my kids home to eat dinner.
The body and the soul have their own timetable.
Your mother knew you loved her. She is obviously still with you in her spirit form.
