My father in law passed away suddenly on April 8th of this year. Then my dad passed away suddenly from a heart attack on September 17. Before this the last time I had faced a major death was 20 years ago when I was 9. Over the last few years I have lost a few dear friends. It is different trying to deal with the death of a family member. I am having a hard time dealing with this. I had to deal with a lot of the funeral arrangements which I was not expecting. The hardest thing is accepting that he is gone. I am constantly sad and have a lot of anxiety since passing. My father and I weren't super close but our relationship had gotten better since the birth of my son. Just trying to get through all the feelings but right now it is really hard.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

Most people talk about the stages of grief, but I like to think of them as the emotions of grief. Stages are something that we are supposed to deal with "once" and then move on. Emotions come and go. I know that I will revisit sadness many times; most of the time it will be due to a trigger that I've learned to anticipate. This might be things like family events (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc) or it may come unanticipated when something pops up that I know mom or dad would have liked.
Talk therapy works well for many. Talk it out. Verbalize it. Sometimes we just have to talk so much about it that we get bored by talk of it!
There is a path from where you are to where you want to be. The trick I have found is that we need to be aware of both where we are, and where we want to be. Then we need a plan, and we need to follow it!
Again welcome!
Gentle hugs
