Bedwetting Support Group
Bedwetting (or nocturnal enuresis or sleepwetting) is involuntary urination while asleep. It is the normal state of affairs in infancy, but can be a source of embarrassment when it persists into school age or the teen or adult years. Find others who are coping with a bedwetting problem and share your experiences and questions.

Hey, I don’t know if anyone would be able to help with some advice, but I’d appreciate any help anyone can give to put my mind at rest a bit. My girlfriends booked a trip for me and her to go to America for a few weeks (we’re from the UK), she’ll be prebooking some hotels and others will be motels she’ll find on the night as she’s driving, but I’m getting a lot of anxiety about bedwetting in the hotels. Can anyone give me some advice that travels and stays in hotels or motels, particularly in America?
Is it worth mentioning it to the hotels when my girlfriend books it to tell them of my problem and see if they have anything to protect the mattress they can put on the bed? Do hotels in America even cater for bedwetting? Anything at all that may help would be great, I’m already getting very anxious about the flight and it would be nice to at least put my mind at rest a bit for the hotels. Thank you very much for any help.

I've just been updating my profile information because I had a birthday last week, and so I'm now 25 instead of 24. It doesn't feel any different though!Just so you all know a bit about me: I suffer with anxiety and occasional panic attacks, and sometimes I do an accidental wee in bed while I'm asleep. Now I'm a year older than this time last week I can report that nothing has changed, although...

In 2013 I had an accident resulting in spinal injury at the base of my neck with paralysis from there down, spasticity (muscle contractions and spasms) and double incontinence. Both my anus and my urethra have been left closed except with manual intervention. I hardly ever pass urine via the usual route (I have a suprapubic catheter passing directly into my bladder about 2 inches below my...

There is even a little card from the TSA that you can hand to the officer to explain if need be.
I always take a rubber sheet (less noisy and softer than plastic and folds up smaller) and also bring SpeediCath catheters that are prelubricated, with a no-touch sleeve (since I have to self-cath 2x day). That way I don't need to bring extra lubrication and disinfecting alcohol and disposable gloves. I use the packs of disposable baby diaper bags which you can buy in baby powder scent if you wish at dollar stores. There is NO problem at all finding a range of disposable adult protection in any drugstore or Walmart/Soriana (MX), and even in specialty stores in Jamaica for decent prices. Enjoy your trip! You can always message me if you have any other travel questions.
Our first couple of nights are staying with a friend of hers in LA and she wants to buy the things I need when we’re there to help reduce what we need to take on the plane which makes sense as it’s quite a long trip. I need the protection that the better named brands give, do Walmart and other drug stores keep good quality products on the shelf?
Thanks again for your help,
Ritchie
If they open any luggage I've never had comment on any protection items packed. So far!
mattress protector, two large pads, one under the mattress sheet and one on top and very thick night diapers under diaper pants.
Only problem ever encountered was wetting one of the hotel pillows. I told the front desk and was assured it wasn't a problem because their pillows were washable.

When I was younger and we went away sometimes my parents used to bring mattress protection with them as it was easy to take if going by car, but sometimes they asked the hotel when booking to put mattress protection onto one of the beds, although I didn’t know that at the time.
It is embarrassing, and like you Cassie, I did and still have to wear taped on diapers. I’m still unsure about requesting protection ahead of time but you make a good point remembering that the hotel staff don’t know us and we’ll never see them again. My girlfriends leaving it for me to decide and said she can add it to the booking request at any time if I want, but she’s starting to think it’s worth asking so I don’t worry about it. She’ll check both of us in at reception which helps a little as well.
On a good note my daytime wetting has improved a little, I've been following my kegal exercises routines and it’s taken long enough but I’m starting to see benefits from them again. I still have 3 months before we go and it would be so nice if I could confidently drop down to pull-ups during the day.
I know I'm not alone wearing them in hotels but yes, its still very embarrassing. I wish I could wear my pull ups instead but since its a hotel, I have to wear the diapers. I'm not sure if my parents tell the hotel but I'm going to ask. I have spring break next month and I know we are taking a trip for a week to the North Carolina shore and Smokey Mountains. I'm excited for the trip but as usual, not liking that ill probably be wearing diapers a lot on the trip. Its great to know you and your sister had to wear pull ups too so that helps me feel a little less depressed and upset about it. I do love not having accidents in hotel beds, I guess that would be even more embarrassing!! I have such a hard time controlling my bladder that I do like that I can hide my accidents by wearing pull ups and diapers. Even after having an accident though, I feel so embarrassed and ashamed that I had one even tho no one around me can even tell. I just feel like everytime someone looks at me or anything, it feels like they know what I just did.
Well that is awesome your sister can stay dry now!! Yah for her!! I hope ill be like her someday.... It was nice talking to you. Thank you for understanding.
We haven’t been away yet, but we fly out on 4th June so only a couple of weeks away now, and although I’m apprehensive I am looking forward to it. My day controls improved quite a lot recently which I’m quite excited about. I’ve even been starting to wear regular undies again lately but with insert pads fitted but at least they’re discreet and after what seems like ages it’s so nice to be out of pull-ups again.
Nighttime’s still hopeless though with no control at all so still need diapers to go to bed but it’s been like that for so long now I’ve all but given up on that ever improving. I’m still torn about asking the hotels to fit a mattress protector or not, I recently soaked the bed from leaking very badly which hasn’t helped. I’ve had advise, some saying ask them, others saying don’t, but Kate suggested she could email the first hotel we’re due to stay at and ask them if they can fit one, and depending how helpful they are can ask others or not later which sounds quite a good idea and maybe what I’ll do, especially after the recent accident. I know I’d be more relaxed knowing it’s protected particularly because Kate’s likes to book us into nice hotels.
Thanks again for asking and I will update this, it may help others in a similar situation to decide as well.
As an update for our trip, due to leaking badly and soaking the bed recently not helping my anxiety levels to not do the same in a hotel bed my girlfriend emailed our first hotel and made the excuse that because of a recent operation there was a risk of bedwetting and if possible can a mattress protector be fitted. They replied almost immediately and said thankyou for letting them know, that it was not a problem and a waterproof protector will be fitted to the bed before we arrive, and that they really appreciated being told so they could help.
It’s made such a big difference in helping me to relax and I’m actually looking forward to going away now, but like always a bit apprehensive for the flight.
Kate’s going to email the next hotel the same way and if they’re as helpful will continue with the others.
that one of you you pees the bed so they will have
a bed for you that has plastic cover on it k
