thats that new drug that is used in a patch. a Fental patch. So instead of using a patch they made it into a pill. Its not something I would ever use.

Opana and Fentanyl are two different things. Fentanyl is the drug used in the patch. The patch is sold as Duragesic Transdermal. A pill is also available..Fentanyl Buccal something or other??? Can't remember the name. Both are opiod derivitives, highly addictive, severe side effects, meant for moderate to severe chronic pain. Duragesic patchs made me sick...vomiting,couldn't stay awake, could barely walk...I looked like I was high or drunk. This was on the low dose!! These are NASTY drugs!

I think it depends on which one your on. There is Opana ER and Opana immediate release. I am on both. The Opana ER is AWESOME! It has given me my life back! I wouldn't probably be alive without it right now. It took my pain from a level8 to a level 1. Just amazing.

Now the Opana immediate release, is of course, shorter acting. I don't see near the pain reduction with it, but it does help with breakthru pain. But doesn't work nearly as long as the ER.

Realize that ANY narcotic pain medication is addictive, but it's called dependence, not addiction. We need it!

I accidentally took one of my doses (which are supposed to be taken every 12 hours) after only 5 hours. I didn't overdose, I didn't even get sleepy. I don't think it's as dangerous as they make it out to be. It's a "covering out butt" sort of thing.

Please, if you want to be out of pain, consider trying this med. It completely gave me my life back.

Methadone sucks too, long term, purer morphine/lowest dose, this is the secret.
And dont forget physio.

I don't take it but am glad that I am more aware of it if the doc wants to ever change.

I think as with every drug everyone reacts differently. .If you follow the dosing directions and take as prescibed, and know your body and pay attention to how you are reacting to it. You will be fine.If you have any reactions that you are concerned about let your DR know ASAP as you would with any mediacation. We are all different, so what works for some may not work for another.But to hear others experience is always a good thing, both negative and positive,thats why we are all here to share information.Thanks

Well dozer, you should find yourself to be among those who have won the lottery. Opana is awesome and very safe. If you still have trouble with it, i.e. if you still take it (I know this is an old post), then try a fentanyl patch or OxyContin. Remember opioids are the best treatment for back pain. All these new drugs that come out on the market may not be addictive, but usually will just kill you, without the relief provided by opioids. Our government has led the world with the fascist DEA to make sure many people like you suffer and never get help for your pain the right way, the way God intended (OPIUM)! So I wouldn't complain when you get a Dr. that has a soul and will use his license to dispense these drugs. I hope you the best, but realize many of us suffer and are not as lucky to get a drug like Opana. Many of us are just judged and told to take the very dangerous NSAIDS and Tylenol.
