Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
depends on the kiddo and how ready they are.
i just read that..
Ok.. steven is the king of withholding he had a scan done a couple weeks ago of his stomach he was full of stool completely!
so miralax yes.. we have been battling cronic constipation for years... years...
what happeneds is the intenstine gets streached out, because it is so full of stool, then it stays that way unless they empty daily.
so they dont think have to go and hold back. when they have gone and it was a hard stool it usally hurt so another reason for with holding. fun fun not!
so then gas builds up inside there..and what do ya get about 2 hours after meals? PAIN which equals stevens aggression because his stomach hurts.
It can be a horrible never ending cycle.
so we use miralax bump up the dose, fish oil, he now has a med called Pantasa and Hyomax.
Pantasta helps with the inflamation,
Hyomax helps with the spasims but have to be care that it does not constipate him because it slows things down...
He is also on an antibiotoc for the Gut. and a probiotic.
Lets see... We just started him on Zoloft to help with the whole anixety of it all.
Tons of praise when he goes.
They now make Pedi a lax strips. which is real easy to get down , but steven is a senna kid.( he is a dynamite needing child..)
My family has a history of IBS, Crones, etc. so it makes it a double whammy for Steven.
I think our kids are all very sensitive to the gut and the sensation of having to go the bathroom.
I have read allot on the subject, The Mayo clinic web site is very good for looking things up and educatation urself on subjects.
I give tons of positive re enforcement for doing his business.
He has not messed his pants in at least a year. Potty on the other hand,,, i just keep taking him every 30 to 45 mins. they get distracted like any other kid and forget and do not make it in time,
when that happeneds i dont make an issue out of it,
He already knows. Just quietly change and i have him put the clothes in the washer clean it up etc.
Its not fun to clean up anything, so maybe he will remember to use the toliet next time.
and only certain toys that he likes he gets when he sits on the toliet.
he has been potty trained for a year now, and i still re enforce it.
it will happen when your child is ready and when you feel you can take that challenge on.
Dont over whlem yourself, because like all of us you probably have bigger issues like behavior! :)
(((HUGS))))
I can't remember very clearly how it sorted out, but the you need a lot of is courage, patience and encouragement - bot his and yours.
Please take care...
