Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Well, though the AFIB is under control now from a "successful"ablation last January, Rick's aortic valve stenosis is severe and his valve replacement surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, March 22. This group has been a source of strength for both Rick and I, and we ask for positive though and prayers as we move forward. A recurrence of AFIB or other electrical issue is a possibility after the surgery. We just pray for a good outcome and recovery.
Rick is doing really really well; and although tires more easily, he is walking twice a day farther each day and holding really well on his current medications with no AFIB. Great BP, heart rate, and working on losing weight, which is working! We have now seen the surgeon, primary and caridologist. He has been taken down to one 200mg Amiodarone per day...still on the metroprolol and statin. At this point, we will monitor the progress then come off the amiodarone at some point down the road. During the healing process, all have expressed that this 'formula' is working, but that they expect to come off the amiodarone. We plan to continue to monitor the meds, as the goal is to get off as many as possible. We are both amazed at his progress.
