I have been on Pradaxa since June and I have had no side effects whatsoever. When I was taking Warfarin I was constantly having to change my dosage because of diet. I started to take vitamins and found that went against my Warfarin, but none of those problems with Pradaxa and the best part is I DO NOT HAVE TO GO FOR BLOOD TESTS !!!!!!!

I have been on Pradaxa since March. No problem. Go to their website. They limit the cost to $30 a month for the first year using a savings card.

Hi, I have been on Pradaxa since July. I have a Medicare Advantage plan and I pay $80. month. I did get one month free from Pradaxa.
I had my blood tested yesterday. It took 1/2 second to fill the vile!!!
Blood really squirted out fast.
I've had several cat scratches and 2 unknown causes for cuts and no problems with stopping the bleed.
I do have a problem with blood shot eyes...very blood shot. Dr. says I must have tiny fragile veins in my eye.
All in all I think it's quite fine...although I do have difficulty remembering to take 2 ea. day at the right time. Blessings&Joy

Have been taking Pradaxa for a few weeks now in preparation for an upcoming ablation. So far I have not had any side affects. I got the first month free and the doctor has been kind enough to supply me with plenty of samples. It has been a couple of years since I have taken Warfarin, but I do not miss the monthly checks!! Love that about Pradaxa. My doctor had me carry a pradaxa with me when meds were controlling the Afib in case I was traveling and had an episode. I have state insurance but Blue Cross is the administrator so will find out shortly if they will cover. I had tons of difficulty with them over the first ablation and I am still paying for it. Will be interesting to see what happens this time. Currently working on getting pre-approval.

I have been on Pradaxa for 2 months and I love it so far. I have United insurance with LIfeprint network. It is a class two medication so I pay $80.00 for 90 day mail order. I had open heart surgery 50 years ago this summer. Believe I have had a/f for about 25 years.

Anyway, were you just diagnosed with afib or just switched to Pradaxa?

I will be 69 next April. My insurance changed and had to find a new cardio dr, The new dr said he liked the new medication Pradaxa so I switched then. No side effects that I know of and really happy so far. I take 150 mg 2 times a day.

Me too on the 150 Pradaxa twice a day. I think I probably had the afib many years because I can't feel a thing, can run and do anything at 62.

My mother is on Pradaxa. When her dr first prescribed it, we found out her medicare would not cover. We called the dr and told him this and his staff contacted the pharm. co. and now she only has to pay $6.30 a month. There are things that can be done if your dr is willing to go the extra mile.

Thanks for all the replies. What about INR testing? No tests required even during the onset? How do you if its working? Everyone is on the same dosage? How can that be? No dietary restrictions? This sounds like its too good to be true!!! How does one switch from Cumadin to Pradaxa? Quit one and start the other. I haven't called the doc and asked her for the scrip yet. i am trying to get some more info first as I still have a whole bottle of Warfrain to use. I had my blood work today for what may the last time?

I also have a whole bottle of meds left over. The doctor said stop taking warfarin and start Pradaxa the next day. The instructions say to take the new medication when your inr is at 2 or below. So far I really like Pradaxa. My Grandson is in his second year of med school and he advised me that somehow you just do not need to have inr taken again once you start it. It is a chemical thing. The only concern is when you turn 75 the company suggest that you are more prone to bleeding. Will worry about that in 7 years....

I saw my cardio on Monday . We talked about me switching to from Warfarin to Pradaxa. He does prescribe it. But in my case since INR has been in the 2-3 range for the past year, and I don't mind the dietary restrictions or the blood tests he suggested I stay on Warfarin.
I agree. At 77 apparently there is a greater risk of bleeding and possibly other side effects for this new drug. I'm not on any other medication for the Afib. I also take a statin, and Vit.D. I'm off the BP pill
since seeing my PCP yesterday.

@bergeram, Congratulations on ditching the BP meds. I wondered about the part that says it is contraindicated for folks over 75. This is very strange, because age is a afib indication, and the older we get, the more help we need. I'm glad you are doing well. Blessings and have a vodka/rocks for me tonight

Pradaxa, is more convenient in a lot of ways but it has drawbacks as well
