Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Take care and try not to blink next time,

Like I said, the very first thing I said to myself after it happened was I was lucky I was not on a blood thinner. No doubt I might have too be one day.
I guess I will have to deal with that when it/that comes to pass.
The most important thing next to blood loss that you have to worry about when bitten by a Shark (severe or minor) is infection. Saltwater is full of germs and bacteria and the Shark's teethe are as well.
A Dude just died on the Gulf side of Florida due to flesh eating bacteria. Last year I was involved in a study (first in the U.S.) via St. Mary's Hospital and Nova Southeastern University, regarding infections and Shark bites. It's very difficult for Dr.s to determine how to treat these bacteria. Many who are bitten end up in the hospital for several weeks. Not because of the laceration, but because of the infection.
Just thought I'd share.
Courageous, Tom, definitely courageous.
Keep well,

Take care
This type of fishing although considered surfcasting, is technically called land based shark fishing.
Other than shark bites, you will usually here about this sort of thing around spring break, March each year in the national news. Scott Pelly did a piece that I was featured in on the CBS evening news last year taking about this medical study spear headed my Dr. Borrego.
As for the rare flesh eating bacteria stuff. Last year in FL alone, 41 people contacted this stuff and 11 of them died. This year 11 people so far have contacted it and 3 have died.
Shark Week is coming up. Check out the late night live talk show that started last year. It's called Shark After Dark. A lot of fun, it runs for 5 consecutive nights.
Not sure if the antibiotics are effecting me but I had a difficult week, early on with back to back AFIB days. Had to take my PIP one day and almost did the same the following day,....... :(
Messing with sharks..wow! Your story about the infections reminds me of a visit to a crocodile farm in....I think it was Zambia. One of the, um..I don't think "trainers" is the right word. I guess just worker. He told us he got bit in the arse by a croc and EVERY year around the same time the bite area would get sore again..he said it was due to some kind of germ or virus that is in the bite. I guess Mother Nature doesn't like us messing with certain of her pets! Glad you made it through this experience...still have 10 fingers, I hope?

P.S. Since we are talking about messing with dangerous animals, it seems like a good time to recount the story about when my wife's cat got ticked off at me and punched me in the eye. The next day at work everyone was laughing at my black eye.."Did your wife do that?" I went with that, cuz I was afraid to admit that it was an 8 pound kitty that did it....so I ended my boxing career 0-1.
I was carrying kitty upstairs in my arms and he just decided that he wasn't having any of that, so he punched me in the eye. Cat adores my wife though, so that is the important thing.
Yeah, that Ebola is scary stuff. And the scariest part is that it reminds me of the AIDS thing, as far as misleading information coming out about it. Remember when they said "Oh AIDS can ONLY be spread through sexual contact." WRONG. Now with the Ebola they are saying "Oh, don';t worry, it is only contagious to family members or those in close proximity." Then the next report is about flight crews who should wear gloves and masks if they see anyone on the flight who appears ill.. We just have to all hope this doesn't get to America. They say in the latter stages your organs just turn to jello. NOT a nice way to go.
