Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
In regards to the Marijuana critique. If some of this new (speculative data) is correct I am indeed surprised. I know many people who engage in this activity. None of whom have AF and although, I personally believe that inhaling any concentrated vapor (on a regular basis) is potentially damaging. I also believe that in moderation, this alternative can benefit the user with stress relieving properties. I think the brownies suggestion is a great option.
The AF triggers (in theory) indeed continue to escalate.
Each to his own and caviat emptor. IMO.
*Disclaimer: I do not engage in this stress relief option. It makes me feel sluggish and I have never really felt the benefits that most others do.
:)
Effects on the Heart
Within a few minutes after smoking marijuana, the heart begins beating more rapidly and the blood pressure drops. Marijuana can cause the heart beat to increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute, and can increase even more if other drugs are used at the same time.
Because of the lower blood pressure and higher heart rate, researchers found that users' risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana, compared to their general risk of heart attack when not smoking.
I would hate to let anyone believe grass could be good for stress relief for people with afib, even if used sometimes.

NYNM-I like cats rather than dogs. I have heard of the hypoallergenic dogs. The hypo cats just look very strange and not very soothing. Like petting skin... Thanks for the info!

When I do yoga, meditate play with my doggies I am stress free
for awhile. so I think it all helps, and in extreme stress there is
always xanx.
When I am in afib, not much helps. I take K and 1/2 a beta blocker
and usually in about an hour I am over it, somtimes I have to repeat the formula
But I worry because i know afib gets worse as you get older.
Sounds like an oxymoron, is that the right word, petey?
You said when you are in a fib, you take K and 1/2 betablocker. What is K? It's great you can make the a fib go away.
Rick,
Keep us informed!!
The brownies comment in my last post was sort of a bad joke because they put marijuana in cakes and candy and all sorts of things these days. However, I think the results on our body would be the same no matter which form is used.
I am not real sure about taking what I presume is vitamin K is a good idea. My EP told me to steer clear of it and gave me a list of foods to avoid with K and split them into three categories from highest amount of K to the least. A very small amount isn't going to harm people but you should have been given some medication to control how thick or thin your blood is to prevent stroke.
Please update us on this if you don't mind.

Is there any additional (comparative) data of the effects (on the heart) when smoking cigarettes? - OR - When marijuana is ingested in other forms? I'm curious as there's absolutely no question that smoking anything on a regular basis can be potentially damaging. ;) - Thomas
