Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

Broken heart syndrome's modern medical title is stress cardiomyopathy, but

My Ambulance ride last year consisted of a conversation about a phenomena called "angry heart syndrome"meaning that something is really irritating the heart causing an irritable reaction. Apparently the signs and symptoms are sudden high rate that is extremely variable, jittery and shaky sensations, headache and short of breath. Does that seem familiar?
cheers Leanne
I didn't have a headache.. but I was shaky and short of breath. I'll read the article now. Thank you.
Anyway.. she told me that I'm one of the few who get violent afib. Most people can wait to go to the hospital.. but she said that my heart rate and blood pressure get dangerously high.
Sooo... they're going to prescribe the pill in the pocket.. which, for me will be metoprolol.
I also asked about why I was shaking and so cold. She said it sounded to her like I was going into shock.
I'm talked to her about getting a sleep study.. and I'm having blood work in two weeks to check my potassium and magnesium level.
Thanks everyone for your support. Living alone and having such violent episodes.. I have to tell you, it really frightens me.
I think you might be well served my a visit to another EP if possible for a second opinion.
Otherwise, as we all know so well. This bizzarro and scary condition solicits a myriad of differing and often contradictory comments by medical professionals. When I was first diagnosed and admitted to the hospital via the ER back in 2010, late the first night that I was there. The EP/Cardio came into my room (Dr. Knez) and told me that I had a 40% chance of having a stroke sometime during the night, thru the wee hours of the morning.
You can imagine how I felt at that time being flooded with all of this information - I was a emotional mess even though I kept it all inside.
No one wants to have a stroke. if push comes to shove you need to call 911 and play it safe. Otherwise tak to your EP about a PIP plan. :)
Really hoping that the pill in the pocket is going to work out for you.
Several people here have mentioned having success with it.
