Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
So, I have a date, Tuesday March 15. Almost two years since my last ablation (2 years minus 3 weeks). This time will be a little simpler. No CT Angiography (they have all the data from the first study). Also, probably no TEE (Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram). Not required if you have been on anticoagulants for over four months (I've been on anticoagulants over two years). However, this time I'll take a Foley.
I'm having major AFIB episodes (the ones in the middle of the night that wake me up and cause me to pee 6-8 times in two hours) about every 7-8 days now. Since these are so sleep disruptive, the next day I'm real tired. I have minor episodes (during the day, usually less than an hour or so) almost daily.
This is becoming much more intrusive in my life. I having hard time making it through my entire workout in the gym. However, I'm still working two evenings (Tues/Fri) and all day on Sunday. I've cleared my application for NJ Disability with my employer and my cardiologist. I'm planning on being out 5 weeks (my work requires some heavy lifting). I take the slow recovery this time.
I'll provide a report when complete. I hope there's nothing interesting to report. Wish me luck!

BTW, I'm still dieting. I'm down to 220-225 lbs. Unfortunately, my AFIB has gotten so bad, that can't I wait the year or so it will take me to lose the 10% of my body weight so I can be in with the latest research results --g--. I doubt that loosing the weight will help me much, since I've had AFIB for so long (since my late 20's).

It has been 12 days now since my ablation. I have had one short lived period of afib (or I think it was afib) which lasted maybe 5 seconds 2 days after my ablation.
Nothing since. Not only do I no longer have afib, I no longer have the bouts of PACs and/or PVCs at night that use to keep me up for hours. It was terrible. I had begiminy, couplets, triplets, brachycardia....you name it I had it. I had only one or two decent nights a week (and by decent I mean less than 1 hour of continuous palps) That was without counting the bad episodes after dinner......Now, nothing....one or two PVCs here and there after supper....like I had for the past 30 years. I can sleep in any positions and it makes no difference. By comparison now and then, it's like night and day. I had no idea how bad it had become until they did the ablation. The gradual stop this, don't eat that, don't sleep that way, HO! what did I do wrong again? I did nothing wrong! the condition just got worst months after months until it got so bad that it started to affect me too much that I went to the doctor.
We always wait too long. Now that I got it and its done, NOW I can start life changes, diet, exercise and other things that will slow down the progression of the condition.
Yes it has been only 12 days....but twelve great days. If I only can stay like that until I completely heal from my ablation than the rest is gravy. If it works 1 year, GOOD! 2 years, BETTER! then I'll get another ablation.
And the end of the day guys, for me, anything is better than fn afib. I sincerely hope that before they come and tell me that they cant do anything anymore for me....I'll be retired.
I curse this damn thing everyday of my life. I don't pray often Paul, but I will look up at the old man up there and ask him to send that darn afib you got cursed with right where it belongs....in hell.

Sorry to hear what you have been going through and pray that this 2nd ablatation will be your last one. I admire you for making the decision to get this horrible thing put to bed ( hopefully permanently).
I have been in permanent a-fib now for a little over a year! I am doing pretty well and don't notice the irregular heartbeat but have to control my h.r. so am on several medications. I get scared st times that it will cause heart failure but my cardiologist and e.p. say as long as we can keep the h.r. under control that I will be fine. They say lots of people live in permanent afib without any or slight symptoms. But; enough about me....! I sincerely am sending prayers your way, just like the time:) Looking for an A - plus score. Please keep us updated.

I came away from the last stopafib patient conference with a new understanding of why "touch ups" are often necessary.
With ablation in my future I look forward to any news you care to share, and thanks for doing it.
