Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.

Mucus production is an important part of the body's defense against invading pathogens...you don't want to dry things up, you want to keep it flowing in general. The sinuses, for example, generate liters of mucus that's supposed to flush them out constantly. It's when the mucus is thick and the tissues are swollen that drainage gets blocked. Then you have headaches and misery.
Sometimes it's hard to tell if you're dehydrated...peeing into a jar or plastic urinal is the only reliable way to tell. Pee should be light yellow or clear, not orange or brown. If the color looks OK, you're good.
That being said, we live in Oregon which is #1 in the country for allergy sufferers. Great. Wish we could move. I feel as though the allergy season has been excessively long this year -- winter was mild, hardly any rain this season, and the warm temperatures started real early....the ground is already dry and dusty. Just terrible.
She's already on Flovent 2x a day in addition to Zyrtec, flonase and Zaditor. She's also on a variety of supplements. She's steamed her face, uses a back massager on her chest to break up the mucus, and drinks lots of hot liquids with lemon and ginger.
What else can we do? Perhaps the Flovent isn't helping anymore? Zyrtec not as effective either? Just don't know.
I'm thinking that she needs to get a food allergy panel but she is resisting. If we could get the diagnosis that something is bothering her, then she would pay attention and give it up....like dairy or gluten. I'm already GF and DF so that is nothing new in our house....but I don't have asthma.
