I don't think it's one of my blood pressure medications because I've taken it before and never had any type of cough. I think right now it's partly a cold and partly my allergies acting up too. I have seasonal and perennial allergies to dust, mold and animal dander.

You might look into getting an portable air cleaner for your room-they do help a lot

I'm hoping that my allergies and asthma will be better once we move into our new apartment sometime in mid April. It will be mold free and will have windows that open properly so I will be able to breathe fresh air. I'm still coughing and feel out of breath sometimes. Last night was especially bad at one point. I took such a bad coughing fit that I felt like I couldn't catch my breath. I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday. Nothing I do seems to help much and this has been going on since March 13 so 15 days now. I'm still blowing my nose a lot too.

A doctor once told me that if you have yellow phlegm, it's an infection. But it could be either a virus or a bacterial infection. If it's a virus, an antibiotic won't do anything.

I've had a cough, and runny nose since March 13th. Sometimes the cough is dry, sometimes I cough up yellow or thick white phlegm. Sometimes the coughing is mild and sometimes it comes in fits. I feel a little pressure in my chest in my ribs, the top of my chest and my upper back. My upper back and ribs hurt when I cough or take a deep breath. No rattling when I breathe though. How could I tell if it's pneumonia? I don't have fevers just night sweats.

The doctor said it's a post-viral cough that can last several weeks. That my chest sounds clear and that it can trigger my asthma. Has anyone else had this? How long did it last?

Yes I have! Keep an eye on it so it doesn't become an infection. But I've had a cough last for 6 months.several times. But if it isn't getting better definitely call your doctor...or if it feels like a deep cough.

I will definitely keep an eye on it. Today my asthma has been flaring since I was outside part of the time today. My asthma educator told me to keep in my yellow zone until the cough goes away. No matter what I do the feeling of mucus at the back of my throat never goes away even though I use avamys a corticosteroid nasal spray. Is that just from sinus irritation? Wow, 6 months is such a long time! It must have driven you crazy!

Well, it could be. The doctor would sometimes tell me my cough was postnasal drip from my sinusitis. I had surgery for it years ago but it seems to be back. For that I use saline rinse and allergy pills and that seems to help a bit. I'm also getting allergy shots weekly and that helps a lot too. Rarely a day goes by that I'm not somewhat swollen on one nostril or the other! But yea 6 months was the record...and in that time I would get sinus infections so it would add to it. So maybe if you have allergies see an allergist? Or if its throat/sinus an ENT...My pulmo sent me to an ENT and an allergist. But the sinus rinse is really really helpful...I like Ocean brand.

Is the sinus rinse as harsh as using the neti pot? I tried that but it dried my sinuses out too much on account of the reactine. I used to get sinus infections but not as much lately. Unfortunately I have a lot of allergies. I allergies to tree pollen, grass pollen, animal dander, mold, and dust mites along with food allergies and an allergy to morpine and ivp dye. My airways are very very sensitive all of the time. I keep developing more and more allergies. It seems everything sets my asthma off. What's strange is when I saw an ENT for chronic hoarseness and also for swollen salivary glands he said I didn't have post nasal drip. Strange though because I feel it in my throat all of the time unless it's from my throat and not my nose?

Oh wow! Well to me it isn't as harsh as a neti pot...I also use distilled water only! (Tap water can have bacteria and other nasties and it actually burns my sinuses). I use two brands Ocean or I use NeilMed rinse which is something to get used to (use only one packet per rinse otherwise its drying). But the Ocean brand (the big bottle with a spray not the smalll one, I dislike the small one personally) and I use the tip that's for "mousiturizing" because the other one hurts. But your doc said no post nasal drip....strange...maybe next is an allergist?

I do weekly "immunotherapy" shots aka "allergy shots". And I take Alavert D12 which to me is the most helpful allergy med out there without prescription. I also liked Clarinex but that's prescription and I ran out.

Lastly, if I do yardwork outside I have to wear a face mask or I will be sneezing and coughing the rest of the day.

One more...lol. I just got switched to Dulera for my preventative (instead of pulmicort) and I have noticed a huge difference already (3 weeks I think)!

Thanks for all of the advice redvelvet! To be honest with the neti pot I used up all the packets that came with it and then made my own saline solution based on a page I saw on the internet. Maybe I didn't get the ratios right? Right now it feels like my sinuses are really irritated because they burn. I should really look into Ocean or getting the neil med packets again. I also suffer from dry eye which doesn't help either. Today I had to use my inhaler to help control my cough because cough drops don't do anything at all. Also walking around the mall sometimes I felt out of breath especially if I walked fast. It sometimes feels like this cough won't go away.

Dry eye too? I have that...more specifically clogged oil glands in my eye. I bet all of this stuff is related to asthma and lung disease. My dad has advanced copd and he also has eye problems. Mine was diagnosed @ the eye doctor. I have to put hot compresses on my eye (I use a washcloth) twice a day to "melt" the clog (kinda gross Iknow) and a prescription eye drop Pataday...plus I haven't worn contacts for 6 months. Damn all these maladies!

Anyhow...maybe you did get the ratio wrong? Or you're sensitive to one of the ingredients? But for sure Ocean! I'll try to find a link :)

I really appreciate all of your help redvelvel! I have many different ailments unfortunately. I found out I had dry when the optometrist put dye in my eyes and said I had really really poor tear production. That clog sounds uncomfortable! Any of the eye drops I've tried even the gel don't work. For some reason the skin on my eyelids is darker and always seems to be oily. Also I have purple circles under my eyes. I've always had them but they've become much worse as my allergies become more severe. I think they are allergic shiners.
