Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.

Because of my allergies I always have a lot of phlegm. When I get a cold it gets even worse and hardens which makes it very hard to cough up. I end up going in my yellow zone and taking more symbicort and ventolin. I drink more to try to thin it out. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any way to prevent it?

musinex...and all naturally, but very smelly- raw garlic. (I would crush it and put applesauce on top for my kids, and I would slice it and eat it between bread. Your urine, breath and sweat all stink of it...but it works to expel mucus from the lungs - look it up. I took an herbalism class about 30 years ago, and have used it in the past...not recently. I would take it when I felt I was getting pnuemonia and it would help it be "just" bronchitis...anyway, research it. and I do drink a lot of water.

I will look it up. Thanks blueviolet. Would garlic capsules work too?

Probably, but I only ever used real garlic...I lived in the boonies, and back when I started herbal meds, there was no such thing.

Mucinex. It softens and loosens phlegm so it is easier to cough up. It is pretty expensive but there are generics that are cheaper.

I know the feeling, and what sometimes helps is robitussin DM

I will second (or third) the mucinex that stuff works! Also, when I drink warm/hot water all day (no cold water) with a squeeze of lemon in it with or without ginger, I feel my mucous loosening up. I hope you feel better!

I've been doing better since yesterday. Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions!

On Saturday, while I was at yard sales with my best friend, my lawn guy texted me that he did my lawn. This costs me $70 every two weeks or so. I don't have great grass so sometimes, he skips. Anyway, I paid him on CashApp when I got home. On Sunday morning, he texted me again, to say goodbye because he was moving. My little thinking cap went on and I thought about how I am healthier...
