certain drugs make me raspy or frogie too. Advair did that to me big time. When I used drive thru windows at a fast food, they always thought I was a man. I just laughed and continued as a "man" making an order. ROFL

Then they are so embarassed.
Sometimes, I get more of what I want if they think I'm a man. ROFL

In my free time (whihc just now i ahve plenty of!!!) i did some reaearch..well i just asked my drs when they came on ward round why you get a raspy froggy sort of voice form inalers sometimes. well it is not the actual drug that effects your voice but the propellant that is used. this is why often dry powders dont have the same effects. The propellant that isused is normally alcohol based whihc will slightly burn your throat not severly but enough to makeyou voice go. This is why if you ever get a burning feeling on your tongue when your inhlaer technique hasnt been quite right it is due to the propellant. I always thoguht it was due to the drug itself. But hearing from a dr and a consultant at that it must be right what he says as he seems to know his stuff.

The thrush is caused by the actual drug being deposited in you mouth and eft there and therefore bacteria feed onthis and cause oral thrush which is very unpleasant but often no matter how much rinses etc it still can occur. But thanx to good old nystatin it can be helped.

When you talk about vcd (voal cord dysfunction) this is where the vocal cords are over active and partially block the airway. it feels very difficult to breathe but the air is getting down just with some difficulty. often people with vcd will ahve good sats but have difficulty getting air in. Also with vcd there will be what appears to be an audilble wheeze but listening closly it is more of a squeek than a wheeze whihc is where the vocal cords are almost vibrating if that makes sense.

I would hold back on saying that asthma is progressive and irreversible. yes in some cases asthma does get worse and is very unstable however at the opposite end there are people who out gorw asthma and also who live lofe with the same degree of asthma all ther life.

Asthma is a reversible airways disease. this means that the airways narrowing can be reversed with the help of medication, however you can also get irreversible airways disease whihc are diseases such as emphaseyma and copd (chronic obstrctive pulmenory disease) where the airways do not reverse and do not become less tight despite medication. people can suffer fromboth diseases at once, but if you only suffer from asthma thne you airways are reversible, this can be tested by a reversabilty test. However in a very small percentage of asthmatics the airways become very scarred and this causes the airways to become less reversible and less responive to treatment hiowever they will stil respond slightly just not as well as unscarred lungs.

Your a sweetheart! Thanks for filling us all in! I may have a tad of both it seems. My peak flows stink, but I've also had many times where my pulse ox is normal and I can't breath. I've been kind of argueing with my pulmonology Dr. about my case. It wasn't until these last couple of times that I was sick that I stopped argueing with him about my asthma. Why would all my pulse ox's be normal if I was in the middle of a mild attack? Mild being, my peak flows are in btw my yellow and green zone still. hmmm.

Is it the meds that is causing throat wheezing?

Recently, the doc in the ER said the wheeze was not in my chest but in my neck.

I cant say for definate that it is or isnt the meds causing the throat wheese... but form what i ahve been told it is mostly likley to be the properllant used in the meds that causes the throat wheeze not the actual drug itself. if that makes sense. the sound is not actually a wheeze but the voicebox and vocal cord mimic a wheeze. so it sounds like a wheeze and displays like a wheeze but is not actually a chest wheeze. it is bit complex and i dotn fully understand it so today i am going to do more research into it.
I will let you know what i come up with

Yeah, you'd think, if I had the vocal cord thing, that it would be happening without my meds too! hmmm. I can't figure this asthma thing out! Like I said, why would my O2 stats and pulse ox look fine when I'm having trouble breathing?
