Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.
But...that doctor is an idiot. Did he do any tests on your heart? So sorry it happened to you and I hope you're recovering from that attack. The bad ones can really wipe you out.
The good thing is, I had one doc (quite seeing him in Jan) put a "?" mark next to asthma and another also wonder. We now know I most assuredly have asthma.
BTW, I've had upper chest pain since Sunday, its better but still there. on steriods and have went from neubilzer every three hours to every four. Dont sleep much. Should I be concerned about the continued pain?
As for the medical issues, on December 24, 2010 I had an asthma attack with no other symptoms. Generally it accompanies my allergies. I have had allergies since I was at least a teen, but never fully diagnosed. I got over the asthma and all seemed okay until the 30th when I was driving back from Colorado. I still didnt think it was serious and even hiked Palo Duro on January 1, with breathing problems. During January and February I couldnt shake it, doctors kept saying it was bronchitis or cough or something. Mid February I was seen at Texas med clinic for abdominal pain and other things. Late February the allergist diagnosed me with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease believing that the diagnosis of Gastroesophageal reflux disease from 2001 was inaccurate, this was not connected to the abdominal pain. His theory was that stomach acid was washing into the bronchial tube.
Mid March I had another attack similar to that of four weeks prior. By this time I was being seen by a stomach doctor. Late March they did the upper endoscopy and only found signs of acid reflux. At the post appointment they were not going to change anything until I brought up the abdominal pain in March and February which prompted further testing on the gall bladder which in turn caused the urgent surgery to remove it. Since having it removed I am off all medications for the reflux. I still need to follow up with the allergist for allergies and asthma.
I TRULY BELIEVE THE DOC GOT IT WRONG 10 YEARS AGO. For anyone with constant acid reflux, I suggest a simple Hida Scan with TKG or what ever the hormone is to test the gall bladder. It will be mostly pain free 2-4 hour test that is uncomfortable, but its what caught the bad gall bladder that everything else missed.
