LOL, I was surrounded by burnt out pot heads who could NOT understand why their telivision did not work!! I saw a plug lying there but watched fascinated as they banged on it, cussed for an hour or better. Finally I could not stand it anymore so I informed them of said plug telling them maybe that could be the reason why!! It was like enlightment as one of them said, " Oh yeah my old lady was vaccuuming last night she probably unplugged it!! Then he turned to me and said, "she is a genius!! I told you she is a genuis!!" Please!!!

Ha. I know what you mean, but it didn't really help overall. I only meant that when I was surrounded by stoners while they were stoned, I was very much accepted "as is," but after they all (and I) straightened out, and I was still spouting the same "odd" ideas I had been while stoned, it really did frighten some of them to realize that I wasn't just stoned. I really did think like that!

Unfortunately this meant I was surrounded by people who only came around when they were stoned, because they couldn't deal with me sober.

All that changed when I quit. It was like a stadium at the end of a ball game.

I have to say, and I'm almost sorry I mentioned illegal drug use in any of my posts because it is so much fun to talk about if you have not had any serious problems with addiction to any of it. Most of it in moderation makes for silly situations. I also have to say that illegal drug use is not the answer to anyone's problems. So Kids, don't go out and do acid because it's poison. It can do things that in the end can cause death directly or indirectly. I was lucky and never suffered any addiction to any illegal or prescribed meds. Illegal drugs are not the answer.

I agree. . . . . some people can try it and not be hurt or have it become habitual, others are devastated. The best choice is not to use anything that is illegal or dangerous. Ultimately, it will increase isolation and encourage a life on the "fringe" of society. There are people out there that are forward thinking and quirky themselves. I wish my son would befriend someone like that. He seems to be attracted to friendships that are not plausible. . . .ie the football players, the popular girls, etc.

When we're young, we all want to befriend the "popular" types. At 36, I know that even the ones that were football players and cheerleaders are just as much as dorks now as I am :) keep the faith!!

Well mother would say 'dont blame your behavior on a disorder' when I told her I was 12 yrs old emotionally, then asked her if she would like to stay in the hell of being a teenager forever.. and who would??? It needs to be worked on and I know of many people labeled 'aspergers' or similar who are emotionally mature.. my test said I am 'very likely' Aspergers, and I felt like an adult and age 6-8! When I became a physical adult, it was the oppposite. Strange! I joked that some people burn out at a very young age from being so mature as children. There is a big difference, bear in mind, between childish and ChildLIKE. Liking trains or cartoons is childlike, going out and acting mature in the world means you are mature

I think part of this is about how you define mature. I wouldn't say I'm like a teenager. Maybe like a child in some ways, such as I'm very curious, and lack the kinds of inhibitions adults often have, but I don't see this as immaturity. I think it's more that the things that are important to me are not the same things that are important to the average adult. Adults like to come across in a sophisticated way, to sound like they know what they are talking about - it's very important to them what others think, and they adapt accordingly. I have less concern about what others think. Well, I realise it's important to a degree, but it's not something I can actually think about when I'm focused on something else. Adults often have aspirations for certain things within a job - such as status. That means nothing to me. I don't see people in terms of hierarchy at all. I also communicate in a direct way - I don't use all the subtleties that most adults use - so that makes me come across as naive. I don't see these things as immaturities, but I realise they are things that will cause others to see me as immature, and they are also things that I can't change.

I have been doing some research into this personality trait. The information consistantly refers to an Immature Psychology trait with Aspergers.

I can relate to this and the comments made on this discussion. definitely have this trait and can be strongly drawn to younger people or people with an immature psychology.

First realised being immature around the age of 15-16 years of age at high School. I noticed everyone maturing and changing into young adults. Would wonder when this would happen to me. Still waiting. lol
