I am sorry if I am being disrespectful about your dad but you said it yourself. Your dad could end up hurting someone?! Sounds like he has a temper that cannot be controlled. And my heart goes out to you.

Is there anyway that you could separate yourself...and I don't mean the dog...I mean your dad.

The worst rendition of this I have been through is with my middle aged son and my unofficial therapy dog. My dog is his favorite target when his violent streaks emerge. Ouchie Mama!!!! Don't do that to my puppers, jackass!!!! The fear reaction it creates in my dog will get my beautifully trained animal acting out like an elementary school student. The greatest of dogs is still a dog.

But that violence is pure psychosis. Engaging a psychosis is even more dangerous than breaking up a dog fight or arguing with a combative drunk.

I use escape planning to cope. My dog is even more sensitive than I am to this weary cycle of domestic abuse. She collaborates by letting me know before his symptoms can escalate to violence. She and I are typically off to a safer place before he even knows what is going on. I'm not sure he has even caught on to the ruse. Psychosis is not the greatest intelligence enhancer ever created.

Call the ASPCA and they will remove the dog to a safe place. It’s hard but if you love your dog that is what it s best. What your dad is doing is animal abuse subject to fine and jail if he’s caught.

Well everyone thank you for your advice and input. I should have mentioned in my above post that my dad does not always behave like this. Most of the time he is very good to my dog. He only acts this way if my dog does something that particularly upsets him.
