General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. I get anxiety with most major life changes, especially in work or my social group. Had a new male staff starting work in October and I began worrying about being liked less than him(been at the job for many years with the same people), losing the buddy I have at work, etc. Began worrying about my coworkers and having difficulty talking to them like we were strangers. Used to be on Effexor 325mg and with my psychiatrist weened myself off because things had been good for quite some time. So without it, this change hit me hard. I was in a bad place for about 6 weeks. During this time my psych put me back on Effexor, Xanax(which I rarely use and still doesn't seem to help me sleep) and Klonopin. Eventually I was set at Effexor 125mg and 3mg Klonopin once a day. After a few weeks I got better(mostly due to new staff being out with back surgery since the end of Oct.). He started back to work on Thursday and I'm almost as anxious as I was when he was first hired. It's like my medication isn't helping(I do see a therapist also). My psych said the Effexor should keep me stable through bumps in the road but major anxiety can happen which is why he prescribed the Klonopin.
This has been long winded and I apologize but I don't know why I'm back at square one being quite anxious, having trouble sleeping/going back to sleep while on my meds. Shouldn't they be taking the edge off? I see my psychiatrist Wed. which is good and my therapist the week after but just thought I'd ask on here since everyone is very helpful. I've always had self esteem issues but until developing social anxiety it was obviously not so bad. I'm assuming esteem issues are being magnified by the anxiety. But still think my meds should be helping me better than they are. Thank you to anyone who actually made it all the way to the end of this:)

Try this to see if it gives you a boost in the right direction: think of good things you notice with new staff, and look for ways to see the good. Smile, breath deep, and take twice as long to exhale, and pause.
You can change the direction of your thought pattern, it just means you have to distract yourself, and sometimes, it takes a few tries to get it moving naturally.
Do not give in, you're much stronger than you realize! Best wishes!
Thank you for the response.
