Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi everyone, have just joined DS & this group as I really need a safe place to try & find some peace & support. My PTSD stems from being the family scapegoat & has had a debilitating effect on me for most of my life. I found solace in books as a child & am well educated, have raised four children & had various careers...all of which ended too soon because I couldn’t cope with the stress I experienced. I have a vindictive ex but a lovely husband now of 15 years. I’m off work at the moment recovering from stress related issues & having therapy, learning yoga & meditation. My anxiety is bad when I’m in group situations, particularly with certain women who remind me of my mother or sister. I have a strong fear of being ridiculed/failing or criticised which is stopping me from leading a full life. Outside of my home I’m always in fight, flight or freeze mode & this has got worse over the years. I’m not getting any younger & really want to overcome my fears. I look forward to getting to know you all, reading your posts & hopefully finding some peace.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
OT (Off Topic)
Is your username a Toni Morrison reference? It has me ready to put my laptop away and reach for another reread of "The Bluest Eye." It gets my vote as one of the greatest works of art in the 20th century.
Back to your current post. . .
It sounds to this just-a-patient that you are on a solid path to symptom management. I don't expect to find a "Cure" for my anxiety but a consolation I find in my symptom management regimen is that it brings me to know many heroic souls I would never have met without the need for that symptom management. I hope to count you among them.
Welcome aboard.
Thank you for the warm welcome... good to know that I’m not alone.
You've taken the important first step in writing it out.
Changing your thought process includes reminding yourself that you are responsible for what you say, do, and how you react. You are NOT responsible for what other people say, do, or how they react. Once you change your response to fit your well-being, others' responses will change as their usual response no longer fits. Does not always go in the better direction, it does change. You keep making positive changes, and it does improve.
Stay hydrated, keep moving, and breathe. Those three things will help you find a balance no matter where you are.
You will find your way through this and realize just how strong you are! Best wishes!
