Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

What I call, "Ashram Style Meditation" where we assume a static physical pose and clear our minds for set periods of time simply doesn't work for me. I really don't care to list the reasons why just now. Knowing why has yet to change many facts of my life.
I am fishing for support group dialog about a style of meditation which **does** work for me. Stream of Consciousness Meditation. In these meditations, I don't beat myself up over the chaotic pulses in my mind and body which make it so difficult to sit in still and clear my mind. I let the stream wander of its own accord and work to achieve non-judgemental observation and mindfully manage the stream's impact on my daily business. I do not set aside rigidly scheduled blocks of time for these meditations. I meditate as needed, where needed and however needed. A few mindful minutes can help me to stabilize my condition while I stay on track with the demands of my day.
Am I making any sense? Thoughts? Opines? Reality checks?
Anybody else practice stream of consiousness meditation?

I have a possible new diagnosis to discuss with my therapist tomorrow. It might be the answer to a question that I have had since I was 19. It's called Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD). It happens to a large percentage of people with ADHD, which I have. Actually, I have been watching videos about ADD/ADHD lately. I remember my Mom telling me that she watched a show on ADD and she...

Hello- I am new to the group
I can stand quietly next to a tree for a few moments, That works for me sometimes.
Other times, in the middle of a crowded noisy place, I put one non moving item to focus on to find calm balance.
Not sure if this makes sense.
As needed, when needed with full creative license to work with what is available at the scene of the angst.
When I have to go to crowded, noisy places, I always carry a fidgit doodad in my pocket or pick one up as I go to help me focus my restless energy. My fidgit doodads can range from a used napkin from a table to a trinket from the top of my dresser. I **meditate** on the doodad until I find that calm balance.
My definition of meditation is exactly what you said: non judgmentally observing your thoughts. I've found focusing on breath is also very important, it connects you with your body and you can use the breath in times of distress. And I think another important point is that meditation is a "whatever works for you" practice. So it sounds like you're doing great to me!
I personally make an effort to meditate for 10 mins every morning, but I like the idea of doing it when you feel like you need it most. Disclaimer: I am 100% a beginner. I've only been consistently meditating for about 10 months or so.
