Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I met with my regular psych yesterday after getting out of the hospital on Monday and he wants me off the new med they put me on. All of the reasons he gave are totally valid and, honestly, I trust him more than I trust the doc at the hospital. But I'm feeling better, so it feels a bit (or maybe more than a bit) unsettling to go off something that I've kind of associated with feeling better. Of course, even the doc at the hospital said I wouldn't be feeling the effects of the new med for like 2 weeks and I was only on it for 1, so the improvement probably doesn't actually have anything to do with it. I also believe the fewer meds the better, so if this one isn't really gonna do anything for me, and might actually have negative side effects, why would I take it? But man, I wish this stuff was more cut and dried.
I also realized while in the hospital that, as much as I like to talk about understanding that I need to work on myself and my relationship to anxiety and how I accept/deal with it and my emotions, I really just want to take a pill and make it all go away. Over the past couple years of feeling fine I've only really worked on things when I've dealt with short episodes or spikes of emotion or anxiety. I haven't put the work in to really change how I relate to it. Kind of, "why would I want to dig up painful/uncomfortable feelings if I don't have to".

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
Having been a person who learned how to cover up and push away those uncomfortable feelings really well...and still does, on occasion, they don't go away--they fester and pop up like poisonous mushrooms throughout your life.
I asked him why he said it could take up to two weeks.
So, in this case, I'd give your medicine two weeks, if you think the medicine is what is helping you feel better. Your choice.
Working through the pain/uncomfortable feelings is the way to get those thoughts, emotions, and memories to release from your brain.
Best wishes.
We figure since I'm only a week into the meds we can discontinue and see if I start feeling worse. If I do, we start the meds back up right away and see if I start feeling better again. While I dislike the idea of sort of experimenting on myself like this, I think it's probably worth it to make sure that I'm taking what I need and not things I don't.
And yeah, I've worked on some of my stuff and gotten through some really painful things. What I think I'm finding now is that I've created some negative associations between painful emotions and anxiety and where it all will "inevitably" lead. So I've got to take a look at those associations and work on changing them as well as digging deeper into myself to see what other stuff is in there.
That negative association you mention, is part of the healing process.
You're on the right track!
That's good that you're willing to make the medicine choice to see what's working.
I don't believe we get much choice but to experiment on ourselves with this condition. Even for the organic/holistic methods, including everyone's fave, denial, there is allot of trial and error involved. Just gotta keep trying until we find the formula which works for us, and not be too disappointed if any given formula only works, just for today. Life is an ever evolving proposition, even for "Normies." Today's Normie is next week's freakazoid. Didn't Bob Dylan write a song about that?
Continued support while you find what works for you, Brockster.
