Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi all,
I am new here. I have had GAD my whole life but it is especially overwhelming during college. I attend a really competitive school and I want to take care of my mental health but I am constantly juggling so many responsibilities. Even now over spring break, I have so much work to do. It all makes me stressed and anxious and I have to fight the urge to crawl into bed and ignore all of my responsibilities. I get a pit in my stomach and my throat tightens and I don't know how to manage those feelings anymore. I have tried mindfulness and taking a walk, etc. but it is so damn frustrating. What do you do in moments like this? No matter how much therapy I go through I resort to a mindset of 'just ignore it, you'll get through'. Which I know is so wrong. I also just feel so alone despite my family being around me. I could use some guidance right about now.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
I am new here as well!
I am also a grad student!
I feel the same. I have the same urge to just procrastinate when I have so much to do. I have the same stomach tightening. What works for me is to-do lists. Then I can chunk out all of the responsibilities and make myself feel more accomplished by crossing off the list. I am still working on how to handle the stomach stuff. I feel deep breaths do a lot for me. It doesn't cure it but it makes me feel better!
Hope this helps and you're not alone!
You've taken the important first step in writing it out.
Competition is not a problem. What you do to keep your balance, writing out a schedule with down time, keeping track of staying hydrated consistently, and doing physical activity to refresh your mind and body will help you stay in a better balance.
Be kind to yourself. You deserve it. And there are people here to listen, so vent away.
I go ahead and scream into the void when I am feeling whelmed. The cathartic value of a well-channeled scream into the void can be tremendous. I most often have a guitar strapped to my torso when I channel those screams. The live tones moving from my guitar's sound box into my torso provide a sonic massage that help to relieve the residual physics of the stress.
Once the whelming eases, I start rattling the lines of my therapy support network to get my frustrations and confusions into words to get a handle on whatever ^it^ is rattling my serenity today. Let the remediation begin. This very forum is one of the lines on my therapy support network. It helps to know I am not alone with ^it^.
I hope you'll feel safe venting and sorting your own confusions here. You are not alone. Listening. . . Welcome aboard.
