Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Greetings fellow anxiety-sufferers:
I've had this question on my mind and wanted to get everyone's opinion on it.
When you are making a major life decision, how much weight do you give to the fact that it will increase your stress and therefore your anxiety level?
To give an example, I'm trying to decide whether I should either a) get a new job or b) get a second job. But I don't know whether it will be worth it in terms of the increased anxiety and stress level. The number one consideration obviously is increased pay, followed by better career advancement prospects. The downer, of course, is that there will be a panic-filled 2-3 month adjustment period followed by a 6 month or so period of heightened anxiety before I adjust again to baseline.
The current job is super low stress and a great schedule but not so great on the other aspects mentioned.
So am I doing myself a disservice by staying where life is manageble?

Are you doing yourself a disservice by staying where life is manageable? Dunno. You are the one with all the inside info on that question in your own unique case. Gentle support while you sort.
Listening. . .
"Are you willing to put up with what your life is giving you?, If the answer is yes, then you are mostly fine, but if the answer is no, then you need to do something to change it.
I have recently had this same issue of looking for a job come across my table, but my answer was no, I don't want to put up with what is going on in my life. I am looking for a new job now, but I am also maintaining the lifestyle that I have currently with my job. For me, stress and anxiety is worth it in this situation because the only goal I have is to have an income that I can support my family without being on services such as food stamps anymore.
Arfie, the crash and burn aspect does still weigh heavily in the back of my mind. I have never had it happen personally, but several family members have all had nervous breakdowns, some of whom were admitted to the psych hospital for awhile.
So I guess given the history there, it should factor into my decision.
Good way to look at is Angelscry. I am and would be content with where I am right now if there was no prospect of another job. I would make do, as I always have.
Keep looking up.
I am kind of in a bad place physically and emotionally right now, even though I long for a change. I think that it's fruitless to take on something new if in the end you are not emotionally ready. On the other hand if you have some emotional reserves, it may be worth the temporary anxiety to take the risk. Anyway, good luck. These decisions are gut wrenching
Since I don't have an unlimited supply of emotional dollars to spend, I have to be very careful and judicious in how I choose to spend my emotions. So in a sense with these major life decisions, I have to realize that if I go with the new job, then I'm essentially being forced to spend my emotional energy almost entirely on this new job, because I know that the adjustment period will require most of my energy, even if it is only short-term.
This means other areas of my life will suffer, so I have to take this into account.
