Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hello everyone, I am new to the group and need some support. Anxiety is not new to me I’ve had it for 17 years. I’m on Zoloft to help with anxiety. I’ve had therapy and some CBT training several years ago. Life is going good for me but about once a month I keep having these anxiety issues, like can I go to work and do my job. I have lost a couple of jobs over anxiety because I just couldn’t do work that job anymore. So the jobs for me have been Trumatic experiences. My job now I’ve had for four years and I like doing what I’m doing. I’m an RN I work for group homes to keep the residents healthy.
I’m 61 and my husband is retired we are OK financially so I really don’t have to work which is a great relief to me as His health has been a stressor for me and raising kids.
I know there is a trigger for this and it’s family issues which I won’t get into. I have decided to bury the issues and move on. I feel it that’s really healthy for me. I’m ok with that.
These anxiety issues and ruminations just paralyze me and I know I shouldn’t be having them but I do. It also concerns me that it seems like they’re more frequent this year. I am meeting with a new therapist on October 2. There wasn’t an issue with the last therapist it’s just that my health insurance changed.
I do a lot of things to help decrease the anxiety, biking knitting crocheting reading. I’ve also been reading The worry cure by Robert LEAHY. I find that this book works really good for me more so than the CBT training I went under a couple years ago.
This book speaks to me better. So I’m glad I have it. It calms me down When I read it.
It’s just really difficult for me when I get this ruminations and can’t stop worrying. Any support or help would be appreciated thank you

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
I try to focus on other things when I get to worrying and that helps,
Welcome aboard. Hope you find stabilizing companionship here.
I can completely relate to this. I had this happen to me in 2017. I was having daily panic attacks that resulted in me missing work. I had some changes in my life at the time, but nothing was significant enough for me to understand where the anxiety had come from. It was almost like a light switch had been flicked on.
But I remember something that my therapist said that still sticks with me to this day.
I would ask him, 'Why is this happening? Why am I this anxious all of the sudden?'
He would respond and say, 'Why does it matter why you feel this way?'
It was then that I realized the WHY didn't actually matter. I used to always think that I needed to have a timeline of what happened so that I could strategically figure out when things went wrong. But there was such relief in saying to myself, 'You know what? I have anxiety and I don't really know why, but I know that I have it and it's okay.' Sometimes trying to figure out the trigger and not being able to find one is more stressful than actually thinking about what I'm anxious about!
Of course, I know that everyone has a different process in handling their anxieties. This was just my personal experience. I hope my words helped or encouraged you. Sending you good thoughts!
I have been working on how to deal with these anxious thoughts. One way to look at it is that they are just thoughts they’re not actions you don’t actually act on them and secondly the thoughts are like clouds in the sky they come and go so that’s another helpful analogy for me.
If I keep those Montras in my mind as I go through my day and it helps.
It’s interesting to read how other people deal with their anxiety so thanks for sharing yours
I'm hoping your clouds have passed today and that you're looking up at a beautiful, blue sky.
He has also written a couple other books another one called anxiety free. I just checked this one out from the library and I’m kind a looking through it some of it seems to be the same information that’s in the worry cure. So if I had a choice I would go with the worry cure.
Hope this helps. And you have less anxiety in the future.
