Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hi everyone,
My name Jennifer. I'm new to this group and I guess I'm just looking for some positive feedback. I'm dealing with separation anxiety from my boyfriend. It came out of no where and these last few mon the it's gotten worse. I'm scared it is going to cost me my job and I'm desperately trying to get it under control. Anyone in a similar situation?

Are you saying it's hard to leave him every day to go to work? What kind of symptoms are you having at work? Has this happened before in another relationship? What are you afraid of that is causing anxiety?

Usually when I leave to go to work it isn't bad because I can keep busy at work but it's when he leaves me to go to work and I'm home alone that I get it. Often he travels for a week or two at a time for work and that's when I get the anxiety bad. I haven't had it in the past. I get to the point where I don't want to eat or if I do I sometimes end up throwing up. I'm learning to cope with it and keep busy but I'm terrified for the next time he has to leave. I think it's two things that are causing it: first is that I'm not a very good cook so when he leaves I almost feel like I can't fend for myself and secondly he has a dangerous job so I worry about him being safe. I know this is no way to live and I just hope it isn't forever. I'm slowly starting to do things like try cooking and going food shopping without him but some days it's hard. I just don't understand how I went from completely normal to barely being able to get through my day

Here's something to help you sort through all the feelings you've mentioned. Use a journal to help you find the pattern of thought (it may take several days or weeks depending on your cycle of thoughts). Often, we find something that we never even considered to be a factor to be the marker that started the ??? . You are not alone in this, and add a new activity that you do while he's gone to help you focus "in the moment" and be independent. The thing about cooking, food shopping, and finding the comfort in being able to eat what you want when you want takes a bit of effort. You will have to let your thought "be safe" be the closing remark on the travels (you can not change that, however, you can change your thought by making it positive). Look at food in a different way, as a project. That way, you can discover what you are interested in with food as the topic. Best wishes! You are not alone!

Hello- I am new to the group

My therapist really knocked some sense into me last Friday about my spending. She said that there are needs and there are wants. She said that there is always going to be cheap stuff to buy, but do I need it? The answer is mostly "no". So today, I am taking back some things that I bought online at Kohl's, namely a 9 x 12 rug and a quilt for my bed. I also bought sheets that I don't need...
