Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi, I figured I'd come here cuz I've tried just about everything else and nothing has helped. My name is Brian and I've had a severe anxiety disorder since I was about 11 years old. It cost me countless friendships and even my marriage. Sometimes, I just become too anxious to function properly. I'm on 4 medications for anxiety, which help a bit, but not as much as I'd like. All I want to do is sleep. Ahhhhh .... sleep. My favorite hobby. I typically get about 12 hours of sleep a night, which I know is a lot, but it's what I enjoy. I guess you could say I'm depressed, but I feel like anxiety is my real issue. I've tried relaxation tapes and therapy ... didn't work. I'd like to attempt to exercise more. I feel like that could help. More than anything, I'd just like for my anxiety to stop interfering with my life. Having a particularly bad day today .... I had a double-shot of coffee this morning, which is a lot of caffeine for me, so that may have been a trigger. Also nervous about the upcoming weekend. Some people love time off from work. I don't. When I'm working, I'm productive. When I'm home, I just sit around and get nervous. I'm 31 years old. I was bullied endlessly in school because I'm gay and the fact that I'm not a very social person certainly didn't help things. A lot of the gays had female friends. I didn't have anyone. I was the kid who sat by himself in the cafeteria. I was married a couple years ago, and divorced less than a year later. My ex-husband thought I was "mentally unstable." I guess anxiety is a lot for a partner to deal with. I'm currently dating someone new, and while I think things are going well and really enjoy his company, I'm just waiting for me to mess things up like I seem to do in all relationships. Any advice? Any tips? Any recommendations? Exercise is the one thing I haven't done too much of that I'm going to start doing.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
I gotta pause for a moment of envy over the fact that you can sleep 12 hours a day. Lucky you. I'm sleeping well these days, but . . . What I wouldn't give to be able to sleep that much. Sigh. . .
Social superstar I ain't, but I have been able to nurture a few precious long-term relationships through symptom management, honest disclosure of my bad spells and as much sensitivity as I can muster over the impact my psych symptoms have on the people around me.
I lean heavily on the peer support network for my symptom management. This site is a part of my peer support network. Live peer support groups also help mightily.
Welcome aboard, Brian. Hope you find steadying companionship here.
Sounds like being alone is a trigger, and maybe getting a gym membership and hanging out at the gym will help :) you may even meet new friends :)
Coffee is a trigger for me too, I have to watch how much I drink. Since I love coffee so much, I mixed decaf into the mix. I like the taste. At one point years ago that's all I drank was decaf. If you like expresso, they can make one of the shots decaf. :)
