Hi,
my first post here
Have tried a few different antidepressants in the last 3 months
just started one 4 days ago and I'm feeling really anxious and agitated. I know that this happens and my body needs to get used to it
I want to keep taking it, I just need someone to tell me that it won't last forever and that I just need to give it a couple of weeks
anyone has this and then the anxiety went away

Yes, you are right. It does take at least 4 weeks (usually 6 to 8 weeks) of daily doses of your SSRI to start to get the full benefits. If you're on let's say Day 5, then you've already done one week! So just a few more weeks to go. Try to stay busy and not dwell on any side effects. The side effects will diminish soon. Hang in there.
It is very hard to find the right one. Keep trying. Hang in there!
Your body may still be adjusting due to trying different medications in the last 3 months. I don't know what you are taking now, but if you could stick with it and not switch, I do think that would be very helpful for you.
I see your post that you were taking Pristiq? Have you thought of taking that one again, since you said it worked well before?
And lastly, please talk to a psychiatrist for these types of medications. Some General Practitioners (like family doctors) don't really know these kinds of meds as well as psychiatrists do.
Welcome aboard and good luck!!
Thank you for the encouragement, being on these forums are a good distraction
I think reading that other people have had side effects at the start but then it got better helps me to stay on track and know that it’s not forever
steadying support while you sort your own case, marydiana. progress is far more sustainable than perfection. itsy bitsy baby steps.
I am on a ssri antidepressant. I have now been on it for maybe 2 years or so. I was very very reluctant to start. It took some time.
I think I was lucky as it was the second one I tried that worked okay. Beginning was hard then got better. I still have situational anxiety and have a benzodiazepine for when needed. So I hope you find what works for you! It does take a little time to get the benefits.
