Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I've been doing very well with managing my anxiety recently. However, last night I was out to dinner with some friends and I had an anxiety attack that persisted most of the dinner. I did my usual grounding techniques as well as allowance and acceptance but nothing seemed to give me any relief until I left the restaurant. Fast forward to today and I've had a terrible migraine for most of the day which is triggering some anxiety in me as well. Not as much as it did a few months ago, but still anxiety nonetheless. I've noticed that I'm usually getting migraines a day after I've had high anxiety the day before. I know that's ok too, but it's just very annoying. I was doing so great and making so much progress and then I have these days on occasion which just make me feel like I'm not doing as well as I thought I was.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
You are recognizing the sensations and just know the more you practice the calming breathing and gentle motion to release the tensed muscles, you'll continue to find your better balance.
Stretching exercises for the fingers, hands, feet, and toes are simple: spread the fingers out, together, out again, same with toes, Bend up and down hands and feet. Roll your neck. Practice pushing your shoulders down (often in high or acute anxiety, the shoulders come up tensing the neck).
Hope this helps!
The homework assignment was to use normal household tasks to practice even breathing and write a sentence about it.
The following homework assignment was to use the hands and feet sensations in those same household tasks and write about them.
The third week homework assignment was to make a calming technique that used all of the above for every anxiety moment experienced that week.
It was a lot of work, and now, many years later, still effective, even when I get into panic mode and have to stop, pause, breathe, option, repeating until I am able to do clear thinking in the moment.
I'm another who uses "Gentle Motion," most especially stretching, to alleviate my symptoms, among other tools. Mid described "Gentle Motion" superbly and it works when I work it.
I also use allot of "Validation" and "Positive Affirmation." Beating myself up for the crime of being sick is one of my meanest anxiety symptoms and only exacerbates my symptoms. Being gentle with myself and my symptoms is a whole heap more effective.
Gentle support while you find what works for you.
Hope healing happens here.
