I am going to suggest you get yourself to a good psychiatrists for a mental health assessment. What if what you need is another type of medication, not this one. The idea is our brains need help just like if we had cancer and needed chemotherapy. We would not blame ourselves for being bad that we have cancer! No we seek proper treatment. I think you need proper treatment. You will feel better in the long run.
I have never gained weight from taking these kinds of medications. Have you looked at your diet? What you are eating? Are you getting regular exercise? Walking has really helped me as it helps with anxiety, depression, just thinking about things while I walk, keeping my weight down, etc.....
Yes, please see a psychiatrist. They are medical doctors who know all about anxiety medications.
You are not alone. There is help out there. Great that you are in therapy. I agree with @hasty and I would suggest seeing a psychiatrist for your medications. Good luck. You will be okay.
Now I only talk to the psych doctor once every three months for prescription reasons. My GP is also aware of my medication regime. So I have covered all the bases.
I am doing fine on the lexapro. But of course, everyone is different.
