Anxiety Support Group

General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. "Meditation" just might be the most controversial word within my own therapy network. After years of working to develop my own meditation style, the word still conjures up images of socially distant monks engaged in spiritual sit-a-thons. For me, the image is somewhere between undesireable and impractical. An internet search of meditation brings up more definitions and techniqes than my organic computer (brain) can process, much less practice.
What does meditation mean to you?
For my own strictly personals, I like to start with the root word, "Meditate: To focus and think deeply." I start each day with a reading from one of my daily meditation readers and reflect on that reading throughout my day. On the frequent occassion that I don't agree with part or even all of reflection, I still benefit from pondering the point instead of summarily judging and dismissing the point.
Then we get to the psychotic curve balls of life; trigger events which slingshot me into psychotic confusion. For those I use creative ad lib meditations with regulating my breath as the only routine element.
Open discussion. What does meditation mean to you?

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
I'm still practicing and mastering techniques. I've been told by many that it is an art that cannot really be mastered.
I have seen some people improve significantly using this method.
I have heard from others that it is not a good fit for them.
Knowing it helps gives hope to those who are interested.
