Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Although pills that work immediately like ativan can be nice, klonopin is a long runner. Ativan works fast, but then when it wears off sometimes you end up hitting rock bottom as it wears off quicker as well.
In reply to your post that most smart docs won't let you take it for more than a month, that it not true. I do not take Klonopin, however, I do take Xanax XR, and have been since January of this year. Prior to Xanax, and then Xanax XR, I tried Paxil, Zoloft, Buspar, Lexapro and Topamax. My only issue is anxiety, I do not have depression. However, each of the medicines I tried caused intolerable side effects.
Buspar made me dizzy (which I already have issues with, and don't need any additional dizzyness - it did help the anxiety)
Paxil gave me the most horrible migraines (which I don't suffer from) and absolutely awful insmonia.
Zoloft made me very irritable, and did nothing to help my anxiety.
Lexapro, when increased from 5mg to 10 mg, gave me the most horrific heart palpatations that I felt like Mario was inside my chest hitting my heart with his hammer.
Topamax made me feel like I was drunk 24/7.
My Pdoc feels that I most likely do not have a problem with the serotonin level in my brain and that my anxiety is caused by my gender and the onset of peri-menopause and its associated hormonal mood swings.
When I expressed concern about becoming dependent/addicted to the Xanax, his response was: You have two choices. You can take a medicine that helps you function and get through your day that you may become dependent on, OR you can suffer from debilitating anxiety. I chose the former.
Klonopin is similar to Xanax XR in that it lasts longer in your system that regular Xanax.
Before I started Xanax XR, I was becoming a shell of a person. My anxiety took over my life and affected me, my husband, my son, and everyone around me. I do still have breakthrough anxiety on stressful days, but things are much better for me. This medicine has allowed me to live my life better. It is not as good as it was before my difficulties with anxiety began, but it is definitely a vast improvement.
Please understand that I am not criticizing you, however, I do not agree with your comment.
I wish there was a magic device (like the one they had on Star Trek) that could be waived over each of us and take away our anxiety. However, that is not something that is available.
I hope you are all feeling well soon.
