Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I went off Effexor earlier this year. My psychiatrist felt I was stable and so did I. I was a little worried but I had functioned well previously without medication. The stressors that brought on the severe anxiety which led to me being on Effexor were in the past so I thought things would be fine. Initially I was fine but an incident and work stressors have put me back where I was when I first started the Effexor. My stomach bothers me. I feel on edge. My mind is filled with “what ifs” and worst case scenarios. I have a 10 year old and no matter how much I try to hide it she sees that I’m anxious and preoccupied. It makes me feel horribly guilty. It’s the holidays. I’m supposed to feel happy but I feel disconnected. I’ve had 4 days off and i couldn’t relax and enjoy them. If I have to go back on the Effexor I will but I really don’t want to. A big part of this goes back to my extremely stressful job which is going to get more stressful as of the first of the year but I don’t see any options for leaving it right now.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

"don't be a hate hole" has been one of my recent mantras which seems to be escaping my mouth more and more often. it emerges when i am faced with the endless list of chores i would rather not deal with. insurance. head lice. bureaucracy. in-laws. the list goes on and on and on and on, ad infinitum.reality checks requested. am i making sense?"ever'thin they is but loving leaves a rust on your...

Children learn by example. So, if one way does not seem to work, use your investigative skills to practice different ideas to find what fits best "in the moment".
One of the best coping methods is to distract the usual thought pattern. I've gone outside and checked out leaves on plants to give my mind a break from words, feelings, and scenarios that were going all out of usual boundaries.
Take a walk, even if it is just back and forth down the hallway, counting steps, moving hands. Breathe and count.
Anything will help you find your balance "in the moment". When you feel the relief, it's relaxing, and you can move forward. Some days, you may be doing this frequently, just the nature of how stress works, and our coping methods can add to the stress (journal over several days can often show a pattern we do not even think about).
Stay hydrated through both liquid and food. Stay connected with life, keeping work and home in balance. If you have to, stop, breathe, and put the thoughts into a box to open again later to separate your self thoughts.
Best wishes.
I don’t know if any of this is helpful to you but I know there’s nothing you can do about your boys other than be there for them when they are ready to be involved in your life. In the meantime you should focus on you and creating the life you want.
You don’t have to feel this way. When I had my last bout of severe anxiety I wanted to die too. I remember standing at a busy intersection thinking if a car hit me I would be out of my misery but I got help and I got better. I’m sad that I’m back where I was all those years ago but I know I can get better. I see a therapist tomorrow and my psychiatrist in a couple weeks. If you haven’t already let your doctor know how you feel. Maybe they need to adjust your medication or try a new medication. Don’t lose hope.
