Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I've been doing pretty good the past handful of days. The new meds I'm on seem to be working pretty well. I had a nice long weekend... despite it being like 101 on Saturday and raining ash from forest fires in the state on Sunday. So, now, here it is Tuesday and it's snowing. Yes, that's right. 101 on Saturday and snow on Tuesday right after labor day weekend. Just because this year hasn't been crazy enough.
The abrupt change is a little triggering, but I'm mostly doing okay. I guess an upside to it is that it's really quite relaxing just sitting here and staring at the window at the snow coming down. I mean, I'm worried about my trees because anxiety, but if I let that go it's really very peaceful.
I also was admitted to an IOP program at the hospital where I recently stayed. I start on Friday... 3 days a week over a long lunch via Zoom. I'm both excited and nervous about that. I think it will be a good experience and it sounds like there is some focus on acceptance, which is a thing I really struggle with.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
When I can gently chide myself for the agitation I feel with extreme weather changes, there are levels on which that particular stress factor can comfort me greatly. I'm not really crazier than usual. It's just the weather.
I believe I've benefited from every IOP program I've ever worked. Even the ones which didn't seem pertinent to my strictly personal case reaffirmed my commitment to healing. Hope yours proves beneficial as well.
No doubt about it inside my own skin. Acceptance is a toughie. Fighting is so-o-o-o much more proactive. Too bad I'm the only one who seems to get black eyes out of the fight. Fighting myself is double exhausting, whether I go for offense or defense.
Is that the Gabapentin you are referring to (from your other post)? Is it helping you?
I have been thinking about going on it. Thanks for any info.
Glad to hear you are doing well!
Alfie, amen to the black eyes. I tend to historically alternate between trying to shove the anxiety back into whatever cursed genie bottle it came out of, or looking for the the magic "thing's that will make it just go away. Neither seems to work. Ever.
I know of a woman that took Gabapentin and she said it made her super sleepy for the first 4 weeks. But after that, she is anxiety-free.
I am considering giving it a try. Thanks again for the info. I wish you continued good luck... the Gaba will probably get even better, once you get closer to 4 weeks.
An ugly truth is far easier to manage than pretty lies and denial. Oftentimes when I allow myself to actually look at my "ugly truths," they are not really ugly at all. They are only the by-product of a good-hearted human making the best of a bad situation.
Be gentle with yourself and patient with the process, Brockster. Easy does it.
Continued support while you sort.
Feeling a little melancholy this morning, but it's a cold, gray day outside with snow on the ground, which is just not right for this time of year, and I had some super weird dreams last night which got the day rolling on a weird note. But it's all good.
liliann, I'm sorry you're having trouble with your doc. Out of curiosity, are you seeing a psychiatrist, or a GP?
