The choices we make do affect our lives. That is a statement for religious people and non religious. God does have a plan for us in this world though we may not know what that is. I'm sorry theres no solid answers for you.. Everyones going through life wondering "why" But that's what life is.

Me, I think there is lots of chaos/unpredictability in the world. There are rules, but then the rule does or doesn't work out. I can make plans, but the result may not be what I thought. I control the things I can, which aren't many; I make plans, but accept they may not lead to the planned result. Just where I have arrived in my thinking. Life is an adventure. Hugs to all.

My shrinks and I believe my OCD is directly linked to the need to have a modicum of control within the dysfunctional chaos I was raised in. We developed quite a few therapy exercises off full acceptance of that as a simple fact. Rather than treating the natural need for some control like something in need of a cure, we worked to channel the obsessive compulsions into more mature self-empowerment. E.g. my compulsive spouting of nonsense rhymes when I am distressed was channeled into writing poetry and songs.

Do you want the view of reality that some scientists and myself embrace? When the "Big Bang" occurred billions of years ago the whole thing about time and space was completely created at the same time . Your life was created then, and when the right time came around you were born. There are many universes with you in it. The one your in now has been determined by the choices you made, and what chooses you have depend on what reality your in. Time flows in only one direction. you can't go back and take a different path. So really, in a way you were right, you are just following a path layed out before you , your future is all completed , its just a matter of choices which one that may be....Annie
