Has anyone on here ever dealt with intrusive thoughts? I've had them ever since I was little and they are very hard to get rid of once they pop into my head. I will try to think of anything else but the thoughts just seem relentless sometimes, especially the more troubling they get. Sometimes they are violent and gory as well, like if I pass a busy road or see road kill I can't help but thinking of gruesome endings for my children or pets for sometimes hours afterwards. Or if I see or hear something gory on the news or in a show my brain will make it stick around to remind me later of all the horrible things that can happen in this world and that myself or someone I love could meet a horrible bloody end. They are alarming to say the least when they pop up, does anyone have advice on how to stop or get rid of these thoughts?

Along with your previous post, I was wondering if you have sought any kind of therapy or talked to a psychiatrist about getting a diagnosis and trying a medication? These two things can be very helpful and some medications get rid of all of those kinds of thoughts.
Writing things out is good, too. Keeping a journal, and writing as often as you want, will help get the thoughts out of your head and on to paper.
There is help out there. Wishing you the best!
My shrinks worried that organizing those intrusive thoughts into puppet shows might give them too much credibility, but, after years of effort, every so often those noisy phantoms listen to me when I shout authoritatively, "Quiet On The Set! ! !"
God speed.
