Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Here's what we do when we catch ourselves spiraling down the nonsense alley (all of us do it when we lose sight of our well-being, you're not alone with this one). We put ourselves back in the moment, and move forward.
It's not the past, nor the future, it's the moment here and now, that you are in.
Take time to be with you, to appreciate you, and enjoy you. You may find what you're looking for right in the mirror and that may heal the anxiety trigger.
Best wishes.
I think it's also fairly normal for people with anxiety or other issues to lie because often people won't take us seriously if we say we can't do something because we're anxious. We also want to make a certain impression and so we sometimes tell our life story as we wish it could be.
What I've learned as I get older is that I owe no one any explanation for how I live my life. I'm a home-body and I prefer smaller crowds. I like watching the same TV shows and movies over and over and over. My goal in life is to feel comfortable - not to have adventures like most people want. So what?
And there are a lot of things I just have absolutely no desire to do or try so I just say, "No thanks, but call me if you ever want to grab a cup of coffee or have some sushi."
As for accomplishments, anxious people as well as people with depression, PTSD and other issues consider different things accomplishments. While someone unaffected by these conditions may consider zip-lining or a huge promotion at work an accomplishment, for us going to a museum or getting a CAT scan may be monumental. But it feels weird to share that as an accomplishment. I just hope everyone celebrates these milestones.
The book that turned things around for me is, "What You Think of Me is None of My Business," by Terri Cole Whittaker. She mentions God in the book - in case that's an issue - but I love her perspective.
Be yourself and your vibe will draw your tribe. : )
