Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I don't have any talent and I also have a learning disability, so even if I want to work to learn to do something, it takes me longer than most people. That's kind of depressing in a way because I feel like I am the only one where I live. All my friends and my brother seem to be doing fine learning and they also are pretty talented. Me? Nope. And having no one to relate to with over here makes me feel alone and like I am weird. What should I do about this? I hate having a learning disability. It holds me back so much from being able to do great things. Some people tell to just deal with it and there's nothing I can do, but I just can't accept that. There has to be something I can do to fix this, but I don't know what. You guys on this website always give good advice and help a lot, so what do you guys think?

My dad told me I was too stupid to go to college right out of high school.....he told me I was unteachable......so I opted to become a hairdresser cuz my high school had a program and at least if I failed, I wouldn't have to pay for it. I did indeed become a hairdresser....but a very slow one. I worked in several salons and other hairdressers worked circles around me. However, I am very good at what I do. I did not believe in myself and always settled for less money and felt ppl came to me becuz I was the lowest in price and not becuz my work was outstanding.
Thirty five years of long hours standing on my feet and repetitive work took a toll on my body and so at the age of 45 I decided to give college a try. I was scared becuz math was my very worst subject. I worried how I was going to do algebra and survive....lol.
I had a hair client that I had done her hair for about 15 years and decided to ask her to tutor me. I did my degree online (I'm a Phoenix) and with her help.....I earned an "A" in both my algebra classes. I did not cheat once....I worked hard and was grateful that my tutor understood my learning disabilities and knew how to teach me. I tried to CLEP the algebra class out, but fell on my face.....so ended up taking the class and was actually glad I did becuz I learned so much. It helped me so much that I earned a 3.88 GPA and an AA degree in Psychology. My dad lived to see me graduated and he proceeded to tell me he knew I could do it! HUH???? I said "No dad....you told me I was stupid....but my grades say otherwise!"
I have gone on these past few years to become an entrepreneur in a business that is taking off like crazy. I am making a 6 figure income and am VERY intelligent and now confident.
It took me a long time to get where I am at, but it was worth the time and effort I put into it. My company runs itself pretty much and I have several streams of money in order for it to do that.
So don't let your learning disabilities stand in your way. You can do it. Start drawing on your strengths (we all have them). Lean heavily on what you can do best and the rest will fall into place.
Some of the most successful people are learning disabled (I prefer saying I learn differently). There is Cher....Einstein....and a host of other celebrities and actors/actresses that are learning disabled....they learned to navigate around it and draw on their strengths.
Don't give up.....take all the time you need to work it out. It took me nearly 50 years.
I wish you all the best :)
I am hearing impaired, speech impaired, and was in regular classes, with the motto "you can do anything". It worked, however, I had to adjust really fast to keep in the normal range of activities.
People will always want to help you when you're being successful, it's when you're not finding your feet in the path that you'll notice who is there, just being a support, and giving you a nudge as needed.
So what if you're alone with it. It's your strength to share with others, how you manage to make it work for you! You can do this!
Make a plan, and give yourself a chance to try it your way!
If one way is slower for you, look at how you can adapt it to fit your strengths you know you have.
Best wishes.
