Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hello Everyone,
Well as I approach the day of my Master's Graduation, I am feeling a bit unexcited? Kind of. I guess it has to do with my parents. I had my final class this past week, and when I told my mom.. her only reaction to it was a thumbs up. No like big excitement or like telling me that she's proud of me. The same thing with my dad. I recently told him if he is ready for my graduation, and all he said was "Pues Ya Que." Which basically means like "Well I mean do I really have a choice?" and like I just don't understand why these two can't have bigger reactions for me or even tell me often that they are proud of me. I told my partner's parents and they were both ecstatic and congratulating me and telling me that I should feel proud of my successes. Shit, even my own coworkers who I haven't been working with for that long, gave me a better reaction or like congratulated me. I just I guess feel a little like let down over my parent's reactions. Like I think I deserve my parents to be proud. I guess this goes back to me needing their validation. A validation that I never really received. It reminds me a lot of in the past where if my brother did the minimum, my parents would be proud of him but for me.. its almost like "Well you're doing what you need to.. so umm.. what.. you want a cookie?" Sort of thing with my parents.
I know I have the right to be upset, but like... how can I cope with this? Like I feel hurt..and it just sucks.
I am also having constant dreams about my car accident.. or like my car getting fixed but then the first time i drive it.. I crash again. Which has been a constant dream since the accident. I also find myself flinching or getting nervous whenever I am in a car with anyone (I also mimic stepping on the break) and like I feel like I forgot my sense of space? (Like the amount of space I have in the lanes.. which makes me nervous?) This whole car accident thing is frustrating me because I wish I could just go back to normal before the accident. Where i wasn't afraid or like anxious every time I step into a car. I'm working on it.. and being patient with myself.. but its just.. frustrating. I'll get there though.. some day.
I hope you all are taking care of your selves.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.
Your parents are responsible for what they say, do, act, and it's not your problem that they do not want to acknowledge your success. Take them with a grain of salt on this accomplishment!
Choose to be around people who are happy and want you to be successful! They are the ones who will help you through those difficult moments with a positive nudge.
When it comes to healing from accidents, it takes more than just once or twice to get your brain and body back in sync to anxiety's help in the moments of remembering past while in present. Keep writing it out.
Here's to you! Way to go! Congradulations on your graduation!!!!!
I tried my very best in school and did very well but my folks
weren't so reactive. My best friend's mom was thrilled!!
It just was how things were. Some parents struggle with that.
I for one would be so proud of myself if I were you. I wish I had gotten my masters but I was too ill. Take in the praise you get from everyone else and let it fuel your drive to continue...onward and upward!! SO excited for you and though I don't know you I'm proud of you for aiming at such a lofty goal and achieving it! Value your fighting spirit!! Keep on keeping on!!
Well done!!
total empathy on the void that lack of reaction can be. when i finally got to walk through college doors with subzero family support, my parents figured i was officially rich enough to pay their rent with with the leftovers. i didn't manage to get a degree of any sort (not even high school), so i am saluting the accomplishment with extra enthusiasm. do that do, my masterful one.
The first question that came to mind was: Why would they react the way that they did? Envy, something else....I would be grappling with this too.
But I agree with everyone else: This is a huge achievement and I hope that you can find a way to validate yourself in light of your parents' disappointing reaction
Congrats!
