I have never heard of the gagging symptom, but can see that being embarrassing. I shake. My friends think it is kind of funny. They just love on me if they see me doing that, but that is only if I am having an attack. Does deep breathing help?
Unfortunately, those vitamins are CRUCIAL to mental health so I suffer anxiety and depression when they're low. However, when they get up to the therapeutic level (above the normal range on a conventional blood test), I may not need any other meds.
The doctor tested this gene because I have anxiety and depression but also because we have IBS, migraines, miscarriages, Alzheimer's and auto-immune illnesses like arthritis in my family. All of these issues can be related to a MTHFR gene mutation.
Until you can get things resolved, just let folks know that you have this issue and it's embarrassing for you but not dangerous. Most people have some sort of issue - diabetes, epilepsy, IBS, motion sickness, etc. And anxiety is so incredibly common.
It is mortifying to us but others mostly don't notice or, if they do, they just want to help.
