I am new to this group and can relate to everything I have read so far. I espeically like what I read about not being able to chage how the other person is but how I can change how I react to them. To me this is very empowering and I plan to use this at Christmas when I have to see my dad.
I have been more anxios than usual since I lalways am this time of year, antici0pating seeing my dad who makes my anxiety soar. He will robaby ask me a ton of quesitons about either my health or anything else that can make me squirm. Well, rather than play his game I am actually thinking of saying , "Can we talk about this later? I'm having a lot of anxiety right now>" He knows I am mentally ill so what can he say to that? Ithink it might work.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.

Breathe: You're going to be okay. Breathe and remember that you've been in this place before. You've been this uncomfortable and anxious and scared, but you've survived. Breathe and know that you can survive this too. These feelings can't break you and they will pass. You are a very resilient person. A very strong woman. Hugs GB
Have a plan of action for every time you speak with your dad. It's not your problem that he asks, you have the right to answer with respect, dignity, and change of subject.
I have a family that feels my seeing a psychologist to "talk" is a waste of time, and rather than spoil any event with them, I just tell them thank you for noticing and ask about something else to change the subject.
Every time it turned back to this, I did the same, changed it to something else. That's why having a written plan of action will help, I had to refer to it several times the first few family gatherings I went to.
Welcome to this wonderful group!
You can do this!
In terms of dealing with your dad, you might not base "success" on his reaction but instead on what you say and do. That way, you have more control over the situation.
