Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Here's my story. When I was 12 I smoked marijuana and it triggered this psychedelic experience that was accompanied by a very intense panic attack. I had anxiety even before that but that experience really exacerbated it. I got better as I got older (I'm 28 now) with intermittent bouts of anxiety but nothing too serious. That is until covid and I was stuck in the house with nothing to do but think. Had a bad anxiety attack and went to the er. Ended up going to the dr to get on meds, it's been two years since then and I've been okay, still a lot of anxiety but nothing too intense. The last couple weeks for some reason have been so unbearable I can hardly take it. Stomach hurts and arms are vibrating. Keep obsessing that I'm gonna fall back into that experience I had when I was 12. Started another medication about 5 days ago and I'm not sure if that's playing a role but my anxiety is ROUGH. I feel so alone and like it's never going to end. What should I do?

Did something happen 2 weeks ago? Even if you're not sure, it could be something you saw online, or on the news, or something somebody said, etc. That started your anxiety.
It helps if you know what triggered it to start up again.
Are you seeing a psychiatrist for these medications? They are M.D.'s (medical doctors) and all they do is medications for mental health issues. They can set you up with the right kind of medications.
Yes, taking a new medicine could cause more anxiety for the first month or so, but I am thinking yours is from overthinking and worrying that you will be the way you used to be. I don't think you will go back to how you used to be. But the more you think about it, the more anxious you will get. It's like a vicious circle. We can worry ourselves into physical symptoms.
I strongly suggest talking to a therapist who specializes in anxiety. They can help you to figure this out more deeply. I speak with a therapist once a week by phone. It helps to have someone who I can tell anything and everything to. I also take daily medication to calm my anxieties.
It's good that you posted on here. The first step to feeling a lot better. You are not alone! You will get better. Start with a therapist and then the psychiatrist for your medication.
in my own anxiety management, getting my anxieties of the day into words and sharing those words in a safe place goes a long way in helping me form a plan of action in dealing with those anxieties. by the time i am ready to work that plan of action, the next step is usually clear to me. you started working that very step by making this post. i suggest you keep working that thread until you know in your own, strictly personal heart what the next step should be.
steadying support while you sort. sort freely. sort often.
welcome aboard.
Now I am assuming you are not using weed or anything off the street, correct?
I am not sure if your stomach issue is worse on this new med or just a holdover from before starting the new med. Many of us have stomach pain or nausea when we are under huge anxiety and stress. The brain and digestive tract are interrelated. Some exercise could help your stress level and calm your stomach, ease the pain. What else can you do to calm yourself that involves redirecting your thinking and giving your body good endorphins?
Many people don't know that some psychiatric meds can affect the intestines and stomach. We have receptors in our intestines. This is why they call it "the gut/brain connection." Any med that you take once and is slowly releases in the intestines to last 12 hours or 24 hours can affect your stomach or intestines to cause pain or nausea. Even the Tylenol long lasting stuff or the mix of Tylenol and Ibuprofen together.
You can google what is the common side effects of the name of your new medication. I often use the NIH's Daily Med website to check the ingredients and side effects of new meds because I am allergic to milk and they are now putting lactose in everything as a cheap binder. Any over the counter herbs or supplements could be making your stomach upset, too. For example, 5HTP hits the receptors in the intestines and can make someone nauseous.
