"You need not worry about trying to swallow; simply keep chewing. The swallowing will look after itself as the food is carried backward. And it will eventually find its way backward in spite of your nervous resistance. If you keep chewing, the food will eventually disappear."
Here is another on lump in the throat...
"Some nervous people complain that they feel a constant pressure in the throat or that they have a "lump stuck in the throat", which they keep trying to dislodge by swallowing. Some say that their throats seem "swollen inside". These patients are convinced that there is something seriously wrong with them. Once again we are are merely concerned with muscular spasm of nervous origin. We call this globus hystericus, which means hysterical lump. IT, TOO, WILL VANISH WITH RELAXATION AND ACCEPTANCE, although in the meantime it can be so aggravating that the person afflicted finds it difficult to believe that such a definite feeling of pressure can be only a spasm. It is not always easy to convice him of the origin of the "lump", and he is reassured only after the doctor has made a thorough examination of his throat"
